I don't know what she's on but combined with faster shoes this time is just too much to take.
lol who fukin cares, you think Norway is some haven of clean sport or something? You dont know what anyone is or isnt on, this was a mind blowing performance regardless
I don't know how anyone can say this was a "mind-blowing performance". It has become a routine in the sport, to demolish world records at a continuous rate. It won't look mind-blowing when the record is soon lowered again. Athletes have clearly only just recently learned how to train.
Just watched the press conference. Someone (Rojo?) asked what she says to the people who will say she’s doping. She stumbles a bit (partially with the language barrier but seemingly more than her other responses) and says “people will talk”. The press conference then moved on.
I think there are some truly misogynist posts on this thread, but it is also fair to say there was less to indicate this was "on the horizon" than there was with Kipchoge in the Breaking 2 era.
Kipchoge was a known part of the sport from his days on the track and due to the fact that when he broke two hours in the marathon he was literally the world record holder.
Ruth Chepngetich is an excellent athlete but did not arrive at the start line as a obvious GOAT in anyone's mind. That is why this is so much more shocking and "out of nowhere."
If you look at her other results (in the 5km and 10km), there is no reason we should have expected this. That is why, for me, at least, this is so shocking.
I don't know what she's on but combined with faster shoes this time is just too much to take.
But everyone has supershoes. Remember, as most on this forum know, she just hacked 2 min off a record that already had minutes chopped off in succession. I have not done the math but isn't she running like 20sec per mile faster than Radcliffe?
I agree with the one poster that something like EPO can't explain it. I'm think something more androgenic (natural or not) in this very talented athlete (wearing super shoes).

When I saw the time she ran, I came on here. I have to say I am relieved that this was the title and first post of the thread, also that there are so many upvotes on it.
Relieved and very sad.
This sport is a total disaster. It's not worth it for anyone with a shred of integrity to take part in. We always knew that cheating was out there, but it's so blatant, so comical these days. What can you say?
Add this stupid "performance" to the list. The list that includes Sifan Hassan's "trebles", Jessica Hull's miraculous ascent, Georgia Bell's "inspiring" return to form, Lose the Faith Kipyegon, Kiera D'Amato's agelessness, and so so so many more.
We're supposed to clap our hands together, and be happy though, otherwise we are toxic.
STFU if this were Letesenbet Gidey or Hassan y'all would be singing at the Choir
But I think that is part of the calculation. We know what Gidey and Hassan can do on the track, so it would "make sense" for them to be breaking barriers in the marathon as well.
Ruth's PRs at other distances are just not that amazing, so this feels like it came out of left field.
She is a winner and very consistent, but looking at these times (already in super-shoes on super fast courses), nobody said, "she should target a sub-2:10!"
Here are her previous best results:
Bank of America Chicago Marathon, Chicago, IL 2:14:18
Bank of America Chicago Marathon, Chicago, IL 2:15:37

It is a view I have long expressed but it doesn't win any friends amongst the believers in this cult.
That's the thing. Her previous races have been good and she's won plenty. But the 1:04:02 half is probably ~2:14 full, right? (Granted, she's often gone out really hard.)
On the men's side, you would probably think 28-flat 10k or sub-62 half to go after 2:10.
A few good examples on the American men's side. CJ has clearly been capable of sub 2:10, but hasn't put it together.
Dunno. Is it possible to think it's like bicarb or really good fueling? Maybe. Even then, I have to think everyone else is seeking those advantages too.
But everyone's right to question any time that comes out of nowhere. This is a sport that's had lots of cheaters.

You consider that SML is also ruining sport?
Why?
SML's WR seems legit. If matched up with Ruth's time today SML's time would be 44 secs. I've always said that until you get caught you ain't cheating, but this new women's marathon WR is Ben Johnson level.

You are correct, Pro running has become a complete clown show.....
As someone with a degree in chemistry as well as a degree in medicine, I am beyond suspicious of this result. I believe that there is likely a designer drug that upregulates multiple anabolic pathways like hgh and testosterone, but is both more effective and not currently detectable, and has no external androgenic effects. These types of drugs are more effective on women, who obviously have much lower levels of naturally occurring anabolic hormones.
Correct sir!!!!!
Me too I agree!!!!!
At the rate we are going, the women's world record in the marathon will be 2:05 in 2026 LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Kenenisa Bekele will be in shock that the elite women is running across the finish line with him in 2:05!!!!!!

Why is it that a man who runs 2:09 who has best times of 14 minutes and 29 minutes (5k/10k), does not come under suspicion but a woman does - this is not logical.
People are jumping to irrational conclusions.
If you add to this that women are more efficient fat burners than men, just look at Channel swimmers for women who are equal to most of the men, and one can accept this new time.
Not saying that she didn't cheat but the burden of proof rests on the accusers not the accused.
How to say "I don't know anything about running" without saying "I don't know anything about running."
