No way, Altras allow me to run injury free. I had plantar issues until i started using them. Big toe box is probably the main thing. But they're all i run in now.
To be fair, this whole thread is anecdotal. We are just talking about our experiences.
But I agree with you that you can't let other people's anecdotes influence your decisions. Your feet, knees, hips, and Plantar Faciitis don't care about other people's opinions. So if the Hoka works for you, wear it.
I am currently running my easy runs in big, stupid Nike Invincible Run and while I hate how they look and I am slower in them than other shoes, but they allow me to recover for my real runs! So you should do what is best for you.
Dunno, haven't bought running shoes in 10 years now as I took the time and effort to learn how to run barefoot and then in minimal barefoot shoes. I love it, can't stand cushion it's a scam makes your form bad and your feet weak.
I loved Rincon 3’s. Then heard the 4 wasn’t the same. I bought the Clifton. They’re ok but nothing like my favorite Rincon 3. Thinking of leaving Hoka to something else.
By serious runners, you mean runners like Grijalva, Tuliamuk, Nordas, Gidey... (all of whom wear Hokas). Runners have run "serious" times in the Rocket and Cielo whether you "vibe" with them or not.
They get paid to wear them. If they were not paid to wear them, I promise they would not wear Hoka.
A serious runner wouldn’t choose a shoe they didn’t like to sponsor them.

Footwear is kinda important to a runner.
If it's a choice between being a professional athlete or not, then I reckon most athletes will take whatever they can get.
This isn't the NBA; beggars can't be choosers.
That's why you end up with athletes being sponsored by Under Armour and what not (no one wants to wear Under Armour shoes). I'm sure athletes just find something in their line-up that's manageable for training, and hope that the extra time they get to focus on running will make up the difference (in shoe options) on race day.

I did the same thing after hearing Rincon 4 was different and bought Clifton. Hate them compared to Rincon 3. BUT... if you do to Fit2Run site there are still Rincon 3's you can stock up on. So happy to have found them!
