that's a lot of words for someone you couldn't care less about
i only wrote that to explain why I care about Nick Bester and his journey, as opposite to someone faster who I'm not invested in. I don't even looked up who won the marathon on the men and women sides.
the man had to get sent the $500 limited edition single-use Adidas shoes, and now will never be able to repeat this feat ever again
He can(will) pride his entire persona on this one performance for the rest of his life, but the truth is the difference between this and any other one of his failed attempts is he had to get the most ridiculous shoes ever made to get him across the line, whilst living like a pro athlete.
Meanwhile a British guy at the same event ran 2:17:05 with a full-time job as a doctor doing night shifts and didn't have to post it everywhere constantly, and there are countless others like it

fair enough i misread your comment. bester has been living in the uk for a long time i read it as you calling him a brit
2:20 is slow. Why would anyone celebrate it? It's roughly 40 seconds per mile off the WR. Who would celebrate a 4:23 mile?
It's not that slow. It's worth 1000 points on the World Athletics scoring tables. Equal to 14:00 for 5k, 4:06 mile, 1:50.9 800. All solid times. I assume this is a post-collegiate grinding to get better? Good for him, I'd be really proud of that even if it's not a time that going to the Olympics.

Fact Check
2:20 = 990, which is 14:16 5,000m and 4:11 mile, quite a big difference really

"mediocre marathon time"?...only your average letsrun poster who couldn't break 3:20 let alone run an elite 2:19 time write that....2:19 is a superior time for both a male or a female...unless you have run AT LEAST this fast, you should never disrespect a time you can't run yourself.
the guys a full time athlete with only a copy & paste coaching "business" to keep him busy. no surprise he finally hit a good one. im more interested in all the wife swapping/swingers parties happening in his running club
My dads just a regular man. Being humble is a normal trait.
Overcelebrating and making things out to be bigger than they are is one of the reasons why most people don't like running influencers.
Leave that for guys like Floberg. I didn't find Bester to be cringy, overcelebrating or making his achievements something more than they actually are. For a running influencer he's pretty tamed TBH.
I don't know which other running influencers you are talking about, but to call this dude tame is insane. He is the most obnoxious moron out there. Just look at the merch/clothing he is selling and wearing, did he just go to China and say "hello blue white give me some stuff that screams".
