Many trail runners sport tattoos. Probably because they have an inferiority complex about not being especially fast and overcompensate for narcissistic tendencies to say “look at me I’m unique and special.” Shelby Houlihan sports some uniquely ugly tattoos to coverup some personality issues.
If you've fallen for someone, and your mom cares about tattoos enough for that to even come up in the face of you introducing her to someone you've fallen for (which is infinitely more important), then that's your mom's problem, not yours.
If she makes a "big stink about it", call her out, in a respectful "I understand what you're feeling, and here's why I feel your response is misguided" way. Beyond that, entirely her problem.

I have no tattoos. When j met my wife I knew she had at least one because I could see it. She told me she had a few others. She's since added a few more including a decent size design on her back. I love them. She loves them. She asks for my input. I go with her to support her. If she said she wanted a full arm sleeve I'd be fine with it. She won't do it because she actually doesn't like the look of them.
She's a professional. Army vet. Masters degree.
