I'm still not a fan of Jakob but I admire his fearlessness. Jacob's 1/2 marathon wasn't bad considering he is probably just the 2nd track runner (1st being L. Gidey) in recent years going out at WR pace and still finish the race. He passed 10km in 27:27 NR and still had 7 miles to navigate and yes he faded badly but great attempt for a 1500/5000m man. It also shows that he definitely could be a medal contender in an Olympic or World 10000m race. He would be easy to root for if he just wasn't so OVERLY brazen 👄.

Probably 99% of knowledge distance running couldn’t care less about his HM run. As far as his ego goes, the Paris 1500m was infinitely more important and he survived just fine.

It didn't tarnish his achievements. It just showed he isn't anywhere as near as diverse as he or his fans think he is and he showed that he let ego get in the road of his judgment thinking he could run with the best. Like he did at Paris in the 1500 when he went out too fast there.

He ran it like a rabbit. That was never going to turn out well. In ChCh Bayi put 20m on the field by the halfway point. Ingebrigtsen made no break. He simply paced them and over-cooked himself. His best shot was a long increased acceleration from 700-800m out (like El G in Athens). If that wouldn't work it simply has to be conceded he is not the best 1500 runner in his era.
