But what you're quoting from the website isn't what is written in the official diamond league regulations. I work in the legal industry and was thinking the exact same thing as uphillrunner. The rule is not written very clearly in the official diamond league regulations, and really should specify "and" or "or" between the two clauses. The DL could definitely claim that it is left up to interpretation and they are interpreting it as "or." Because SML is a top 20 athlete in the overall World Rankings, she would then be eligible for any of her events (200, 400, and/or 400H).

While we all bag on her for racing not that much ironically I think that's going to be much to her benefit against Paulino who's been active all year

I guess I'd care more if she was bumping out an athlete who really deserved to be there, but if I'm looking at it correctly it will be Talitha Diggs (400) and Jenna Prandini (200) who will maybe be out. The 200 notably won't have Alfred (if she's running DL Final, it's probably 100m only) and Thomas (all attention to Athlos), and the 400 won't have Kaczmarek (said Silesia was it for her). The 200 especially could use more star power as it stands.

This made me curious enough to go look up the exact wording in the diamond league regulations (copied below, from section 4.5). They really should have included the word "and" between the two clauses. But it seems pretty clear to me that "and" is what is meant there given the structure and that they do use "either...or" in the first clause. But I suppose they could argue they meant this to be "or" rather than "and." More likely they just decided they can do whatever they want though and ignore their own requirements, because who really has grounds to object?

To be eligible and considered for a Global Wild Card athletes must:
o have either competed and achieved a result in at least one Diamond League meeting during the season or competed and got injured at a Diamond League Meeting;
o be placed in the top 5 World Rankings of their discipline, or in the top 20 of the overall World Rankings, or be the current World Record Holder, or the current Olympic/ World / Diamond League champion;

Classic - don't hate the player hate the game - Diamond shouldn't allow her to run but they are, which as a fan I'm good with

Warholm basically only competes in the 400h also. He shouldn’t be a starz

Mondo only competes in the PV. He shouldn’t be a star.

Ryan Crouser only competes in the shot put. He shouldn’t be a star.

Tara Davis-Woodhall only compin the long jump. She shouldn’t be a star.

SML has competed in the 400, 400h, 100h, and 200 this year. She is the most dominant in the history of the 400h. She’s one of the best 400 & 200 athletes today. She shouldn’t be a star.

She has undoubtedly brought in more fans than anyone the past few years. You'd complain the sport doesn't have enough fans or money or blah blah blah. So add Sydney to the mix and it's instantly a sold out crowd with many more tuning in. Who else has done what she's done this season? Nobody outside of track cares about doped up Jakob, loud mouth Lyles has shut it down for the season so it's up to Sydney to keep the same excitement and enthusiasm going. So if she doesn't run every week you whine, if she gets into a meet and they bend the rules for one of the biggest global stars you still whine. Quit crying and just enjoy her greatness.

This is the sign of someone that hasn't paid attention all year. She's competed in several events. Would you say Mondo isn't a star because he only does the pole vault? Or maybe Crouser and the shotput?

I agree, the more Sydney runs the better for the sport.

Letting her know she doesn't have to turn up to the Diamond League and she can still be in the biggest event, reduces the amount she's going to run.
