Another part of the Lindgren Legend that I've heard in various places is that his race against Ron Clarke where he ran that 8:40 is that the reace was the inspiration for Tom Petty's "Won't Back Down."

It's always weird the way people claim this stuff from "back in the day" not just without proof, but without any sense of caution that they might be propagating BS. They just repeat it like it must be factual. But if someone today claimed the same things about a runner in 2026 we'd rightlyfully dismiss them immediately as liars. So bizarre.
