What the heck was Marco Arop doing in Lausanne?

Based in how obvious and collaborative that was - I suspect they've done a deal.

In Silesia I wouldn't be surprised if Wanyoni takes Arop through.

There is a conspiracy theory about how he was recruited to participate in the first phase of a study on current trends in forum responses to confusing moments in 800m WR attempts. Another conspiracy theory claims the pacemaker was hired by Coe to stall his name moving down to outside the top 10 all time performances and Arop's hampered 1:41.72 was vengeance personified. Personally, however, I think it's more plausible that I am unsuccessfully trying to provide comic relief by showing myself to be relatively fluent in talking nonsense.

My gut instinct is that Arop had agreed to being an "unofficial" pacemaker for Wanyoni.
To have a WR attempt, Arop was probably the only other guy in the race who could do that for the 2nd lap.
From the get go - it seemed odd - the official pacemaker charging to the ront with Arop quickly slotting in behind him & Wanyonyi happy to slot in behind Arop (why? - he's usually a front runner)
The situation between Arop & the pacemaker was bizarre - at first I just thought it was an unfortunate coincidence, but given what Arop did later in the race, I now think Arop could see the pacemaker was slowing down & intended to get on his shoulder, therefore indicating it was time for him to step onto the midfield & get out of the way, only the pacemaker (who probably had been instructed to run to a certain distance) got confused by it & tried to run out wide.
But it was the way Arop simply ran out wide & almost gestured Wanyonyi to come past is what makes me think Arop was actually acting as a pacemaker for Wanyonyi's WR attempt.
