Unless you are a top 5 guy it’s going to be impossible for American kids to run D1 soon.
This is the type of over exaggeration I would expect from LR. Completely not true. Foreign runners have only helped our kids level up.
American kids went 1-2 in the 800, 1500, 3k steeple and 5k at the last NCAA D1 meet.
It's not about the guys winning NCAAs, but the 4:12/9:00 high schoolers having a much smaller chance to find a program/scholarship than even a few years ago.
Coaches in the NCAA, in many sports, are buying talent around the globe to boost their programs and themselves financially and/or to move to greener pastures. That comes at a cost to young talent in the US who have to over train during high school to post times to get a look from university coaches. Often because of this they are fried by the time they get to college or are injury prone.
Jerry’s coaching career has shifted in many ways. He can’t get talent to come to BTC. He can’t get talent to come to U of O. He can’t keep talent at U of O. He is buying proven talent now. Man how things have changed at U of O. The place where US middle and long distant talent would beg to come.
Yes, it was very discouraging watching the Paris Olympics and seeing all the top-10 performances by American born, NCAA-grown talent. And to think, just three decades after UTEP's super-teams, which also ruined the future of American distance running.

Ha! NCAA is far more advantageous for the foreign kid than the American grown.
NCAA gives the foreign kid far better competition than he would get at home......and all on YOUR taxpayer dime. Far better travel opportunities, far better sports medicine, far better sports equipment than he would get at home. Far better everything.
You ever ask why so many foreign kids are clamouring to get here. How many American kids are on athletic scholly at University of East Anglia?
A late bloomer American kid ain't gonna bloom at all because he will have retired from the sport at 18. Hell, he can't even get a roster spot.

I was looking at this chart on the Oregon Athletics website, what section is taxpayer dime?
This is actually a cool story. I’m pretty sure his dad died and there is a lot riding on him for his family. I do kinda wonder how this works as he can’t get NIL. This should push Whitmarsh and Cohen if he returns. Would be training with Cook/Birnbaum amongst others? NCAA mid-distance is going to be must-see.
people don't like to hear stuff like this
they much prefer the "God damn Black Africans are ruining the NCAA" narrative
