Keely's injury was that she wanted to party, as evidenced by her Instagram stories. I wish they would just come out and say it. She's turned more and more attention to nightlife and getting all dressed up. Her new level of fame will provide greater opportunities.
It is interesting to see these athletes in the shape of their lives deciding to hide out -- away from both athletic tests and drug tests?
Has to be the biggest pharmaceutical user of the year, from ~3:57 to ~3:50 ,breaking records , and winning silver after years of being average at best.
She barely drinks. Stop making stuff up. She has worked very hard to peak at the Olympics. Has picked up a niggle so is having a rest. There’s no more to it than that.

You have zero evidence of that. There's actually more evidence that Grant Fisher has been partying harder than Hodgkinson since the Olympics, but no one would criticise that because there's different rules for young men celebrating a big achievement compared to young women. I don't see why Hodgkinson would lie about the injury. Both her and her coach had made it clear they wanted to attempt sub-1:54 and she had even signed up for a 400m in Berlin to tune-up for it. She's also not generally someone who serves racing. She's one of the most consistent presences on the circuit and I'm sure she'd be happy to take the payday if she was able to.

Old man literally commenting on what a female runner wears when not competing.
What would you like her to wear when she is out with friends? If a dress is "all dressed up," would you in your wisdom permit her to wear jeans and a polo shirt?
Biggest impact is no extra spot for GB in the 800 with Keely expected to win the DL final. So 2 spots and a low margin of error for Reekie/Gill. I always wonder how her own training partners think because a bunch are up-and-coming 800m runners so this decision isn’t ideal for them.
they are probably her friends and fine with it. why does she have to be a plowhorse for UK to get a slot when she wants her season over? you're confusing nationalism with personal goals or concerns.
Its hard to find data on the sport with the most non contact related injuries, but it seems running has to be number 1. Who isnt injured every year or two? Its almost like peaking comes with one injury for everyone now.

Mu is actually lucky and fortunate she didn't make it to Paris.
In her current 2024 form, she would have completely been embarrassed and most likely not even lined up in the final.
From here, she can either find great motivation and commit fully to a T&F career and focus on the WR and 28 LA Olympics. Or she can go the other way and fade away from t&f. ...which would be a true tragedy and perhaps the greatest waste of talent in the sport.
Keely legitimately deserves her Gold, has been hungry for it and has worked the hardest for it and she is the best in the world at it in 2023, 2024 and probably next year too. ...But she knows like most of us, that without Mu to compete against, the luster and prestige is not the same.
based on mu's "earned it" social media comment to keely, she remains in a weird mental headspace. i think miller + injury did a number on her, based on the SI article she doesn't seem consistently sure this is the career she wants, and she wasn't helped by her coach's lack of focus.
mu, to me, stepped into a weakened 800 event after they deleted the intersex runners eg semenya. the event has rechurned some new talent, heated up, keely beat her H2H LAST YEAR, and she's gonna have to come up with training and a race plan more adaptable than wire to wire without fully using the throttle.
in terms of the sydney comparison, it would be sydney steps into a weakened event, dominates, can put up fast times without going 100%, and then counterfactually bol steps in and starts winning, sydney gets hurt, relationship bust, and can't find her motivation. to me sports are fine margins and it's hard staying atop.
having watched allie wilson make indoor worlds and oly, then finish last in a quick DL 800 recently, what credit i will give mu is she does have another gear above that, in her sleep. she can do what wilson does trying very hard, going through the motions. but that's her baseline talent, and the really fast times you need to be happy, committed, driven, and able to race different models. but as it is she was worse than allie wilson this year. fine margins can mean a hurt or unhappy runner becomes ordinary or quits. she either decides she enjoys it and gets her crap together, or not. if she does, even then, 800 both men and women is taking off and you're gonna have to outrace and outkick folks, not just glide 2 laps to medals.

it also may be a LR thing to assume athletes have to maintain some monastic lifestyle of abstention and endless mileage. we took 3rd in a big youth soccer tournament, U18 age group, drinking beers and making midnight diner visits every night, sleep it off, then win a soccer game the next afternoon.
