theres a lot of people that theorize a strong "luddite" movement will form.
people are beginning to catch on about social media/smart phones. It's possible there is a strong movement to stop using them when the empirical data becomes clear people are far less happy today than the past (and especially before 2012 when smart phone usage became ubiquitous). seriously look into it, a ton of negative indicators related to mental health, IQ started to spike in 2012.
humans are pretty resilient, and I could see mass movement to eschew phones, computers, and returning to the land (there is a ton of space in the usa) despite the addictiveness of tech. the economy starts to crushed as large tech firms and firms that rely on consumers using their tech/apps start to get crushed and go under. banks start to go under pressure as they cant cover their loans etc. more dissaray/chaos leads to more people following the luddite movement.
While I like the sound of that, what happens is that the banks and government never lose. They are one in the same, so if that did happen, the government would just take everything they could from the luddites to ensure the banks and financial system remained intact.
It might not be soldiers showing up and taking your stuff, it would be more subtle, they would put very very large fees and taxes on things and that would wipe out whatever you saved. (If you do not pay those taxes THEN they do show up and physically take it.)
