I didn't think she'd go quick (for her) tonight. 3 races in 4 days will take it out of you, but OGs are about winning medals, not running times.
Even with a slow 58s first lap, which should have played right into Moraa's hands, she looked gassed with 100m to go and couldn't respond to the sprint from Hodgkinson.
Watch her go for a 1:53 next year. Would be great if Mu could tag along.
I have to say I was a little worried when I saw the time for the first lap. But on reflection (and seeing her post race interview) I think she ran the perfect race. She controlled it. She knew what she could do at the end. She said they were all tired - she knocked out a very quick semi final yesterday.
The scheduling isn’t favourable for world records or even super fast times. She didn’t panic and knew what she needed to do.
She was under the most unbelievable pressure here in the UK. We were shown a montage of her entire life just before. It was too much. But she handled it and delivered. What a future she has!
Yes. If the organisers want fast times, don't have semis and the final on consecutive days.

I genuinely believed Moraa would've outkicked her, when I saw a 58 last lap. Glad I was wrong.

Mary Mooraa has never run quicker than 1:56, why would she be out kicking a 1:54 performer after a 58 first lap?????
She was the best women's 800 runner all year. Totally deserved. As a fan of racing, it would be good to see Mu and Moraa get back to the top of her game to see competition in this race. But in 2024, the 800 has belonged to Ms. Keely.
Mu isn't cooked. But I do think she has found other things in her life that are more important to her than running. A similar thing happened to Jim Ryun. Or at least he describes this in his book.
I'm her biggest fan. I even have posters of her in my bedroom. I was hoping Mu could have raced too. Keely would have beaten her as well. And I'm from America. And I'm voting for Trump.
Very lucky Mu wasn't there. Keely will never win another World Championship again
There is a better chance that Mu will never compete in another World Championship than there is of Keely not winning another one.
I saw her race in Gainesville and I think it really screwed her up mentally to finish 5th (4th American). She may need a sport psychologist to have any chance of getting back to where she was before. The talent is there but I don't believe the confidence is anymore.
Keely controlled it and meted out her effort perfectly. She was optimizing to win, not run 1:53-1:54, and she executed more or less flawlessly. Very impressed with her tactics.

Was worried she ran the first lap was too slow but Moraa's kick was nowhere near as strong as I feared
Moraa doesn't really have a kick as much as she can repel all challenges from behind. That's why the final was strange tactics from her. Instead of bolting to the front and forcing Keely to pass on lap two it was almost like a role reversal for both of them.
I think the answer was confidence. Keely understood she wasn't vulnerable this time as long as she remained ahead. Moraa wasn't confident she wouldn't fall out of the medals completely if she pushed a very fast opening lap.
Overall it was kind of a lackluster race without Mu. The world has plenty of 1:58 types these days but they are reduced to irrelevancy in the global final.

The key word in your statement is “there.” In all sports, the first requirement is that you be “there.” Not “there”? Doesn’t matter. It’s who is “there” that matters. Maybe Mu and you will learn that simple lesson one day.
