Olli when on his game is one of the top 1500 guys in the world. In 2022 and half of 2023 he was on a short list capable of winning a medal. I don’t think he gained his confidence back to his usual self since coming back from the adductor and SI joint stress reaction. Ollli went from 0 injury issues to two severe ones within a year of the 2024 Olympics so it’s understandable as to why he has been struggling. there is a lot of pressure on these guys.
He will get his confidence back and be competing for a medal again in 2025. I hope he keeps racing this summer and ends on a high note before taking a break.
It takes less characters to say you still wet the bed and live at home you little gambler 😋😋 save your government some money and put the money to better use

He won’t get even remotely close to a world or Olympic 1500m medal ever
Going into Birmingham 2022, Josh (5th) and Jake (1st) had a World final in their legs. Ollie had a 3:38 10th place semi-final bomb out in his.
If we’re going to speak openly, I would think back to the photo he made public on social media showing the amount of weight he dropped coming back from injury. I think he over did it and looked light all year on the Coffee Club videos. Too light = power issues at the end of races.
yeah, just my thought after listening to this guy talk on the pod for hours and hours at this point... he strikes me as someone who is self-critical and compares himself to others (we already know this actually based on earlier CC episodes in which he described running based on "self loathing" as a thinly disguised joke plus the mental health solo episode he recorded about almost quitting the sport even after Commonwealth gold).
I think he desperately tried to pull himself back from the depths of injury hell after 2 back to back serious injuries pretty aggressively while also comparing himself to the those around him (Nuguse is just a naturally wiry guy, Jingy and Josh both look so lean this year atm). So he's intensely training on a time crunch bc of Aus qualification/selection process, coming back from two injuries (including bone stress), and trying to drop a significant amount of weight all at once while dealing with whatever self doubt he's got going on... it's a lot.
kind of not surprised he looked so off in the heats and repechage honestly. back to back races looking so flat. like being stabbed in the heart twice in a row. brutal.

He strikes me as a bit full of himself to make that instagram post. Tons of other athletes have much bigger followings and deal with much more criticism. I'm not sure who he thinks he is?
Why not just quit using it? Why the declaration? Seems like it would just make things worse. Having said this, I don't have social media, so I have no idea.
What's even odder for me is that he didn't even quit Instagram - he just set up a private account. It shows you how addicted young people are to these products.
Olli, I feel for you bro. If the haters are getting to you, just DELETE all social media accounts period. DELETE your accounts on instagram, twitter, facebook, etc. Blacklist this forum.
If you think you need instagram for sponsor posts, give your account to a friend or PR person and email them the posts you want to make and never ever look at it yourself and don't give yourself the login. Problem solved.
The gross part is if these trolls ran into Olli in real life they'd probably ask for a picture.
If you remember, there was that one pretty heavy podcast episode where Olli talked about how he was bullied really badly as a kid. It was tough stuff to listed to, I think at one point he said he was held down while his classmates burned his skin with some kind of aerosol spray.
Hopefully he has a good support system. He did brilliantly to make the team coming off his injuries.

Great post. it is too easy to forget we are talking about complete humans

Never been to his instagram or anyone else's, but...the reason they do it is EGO, plain and simple. Ollie and every other person wants to be pumped by others to stroke their EGO and make themselves feel special and superior. I don't know the guy, never met him and have zero against him, but it's EGO and nothing else. Mental Health??? No, that's a 21st Century crutch for whatever doesn't go your way. Put on your big boy pants and either read it, don't read or don't put it out there.
Posted on the other one and posted it here as well. Yes, he's a human being but because of his EGO he's bringing it on himself.
well, at the end of the day, he's also a human being. we all have our shortcomings. he's likely learned a thing or two as far as what not to do going forward, and think it will end up benefitting him. keep moving, hoare!
Everything is fun and games until you realize this is a real person. Doesn't matter that he uses social media. Everyone uses social media. These people are tremendous athletes, not robots.
Hate to see it. Hope he gets back on track. Honestly just looked like he (and the rest of his training partners) were just tired out there. Happens.
How do all of the athletes he gives unpleasant nicknames to on his CC videos feel about that? Is “Hole Cocker” not a real person?
One rule for one, one rule for another.
I agree. They have a podcast where they critique others performances. I do hope he gets into a better place mentally. With that being said, he should probably work on being less entitled. If you are on a public platform, you will be criticized. If you don't want to be criticized, you can't expect to be only praised.
Lashing out because some other dude failed to perform up to your expectations in an individual sport is truly insane to me. Why would anyone other than Olli Hoare be mad at Olli Hoare for not making it to the semis?
Athletes benefit financially from those who follow them. When they are paid, I expect a certain performance level from them. When I bet on them with Fan Duel, I really expect a certain level from them and I get pissed when I lose money on them. When I am pissed I post angry messages on social media. That being said, I did not bet on anything on Olli or Stewie. But if Hocker goes out in the semis, he can expect some SM blowback from KoffeeKlubBro65239.
If a person pays money to see another perform, your an entertainer. If they aren't happy with performance you can boo. Suck it up Oliie you ran poor. Works both ways not when you do well only.
Except you’re not guaranteed a victory just because you bought an ticket, unlike a Taylor Swift show where you expect a great performance. But the musician doesn’t have someone playing defense or running faster.

i agree with you as well. it's not a binary issue. it shouldn't happen, but he can handle it better. and he certainly shouldn't be on there if he can't take it. Self awareness, emotional intelligence, etc. hope he can grow from this. seems like a nice guy.
I recently did a social media "cleanse" and am still off all my accounts (IG, Facebook, Strava) and it's been great! For me it was more about stopping that weird comparison game that social media creates and not seeing people living their "best life" when I'm having a tough day. I can only imagine what it's like to have a tough race and then to do have some random people go after you because they can kick you while you're down. I know this happens in every sport but I think it's especially distasteful in running because you know the athletes really handle these accounts themselves. Olli's podcast about his struggles in 2022 was one of my favorite Coffee Clubs and gave me a new level of respect for what some of these guys are dealing with behind the scenes. Again, to know that and go directly to his account after a bad race is just supremely nasty. Fortunately, Olli has a great support team around him and a lot of people who genuinely care for him.
Let's put this to bed. I've heard directly from several former teammates of Hoare that he is an arrogant, entitled, prick. He isn't a good teammate, he's spoiled, spent $5k on a damn French Bull Dog, and the list goes on and on. The majority of these OAC athletes really are spoiled brats too. They make boatloads of cash compared to their European/African counter parts who kick their butts but don't have as many IG followers. For Hoare, in this life, you reap what you sow. If anyone is to blame, maybe it's his parents who raised a crappy person? Idk? He's a fantastic runner, but not a fantastic person, it's really as simple as that. I don't wish anyone ill will, but I have a hard time feeling much sympathy for him and any of these other bratty runners.
