Sydney doesn't need the ego stroke of running indoors. If she did she'd surely have the record. Find one outdoor event where Femke has a faster time than Sydney.
what happened has an easy, NCAA-level-mistake explanation. we ran the fastest time of the meet and a WR with our first choice in the heat. we then ran the same people with no subs in the final and got .3s slower and lost. NED rested bol in the heats and ran 3s slower but advanced, then ran .02 slower than we did in heats to win it all.
they ran their mouth about wilson being inexperienced, etc. turns out we had 3s to play with to win our heat. you rotate 1-2 people, we get the WR in the final and win.
What a split for Bol. But why didn’t Sydney run on this relay? She does and Bol isn’t walking her down, it’s a gold for the US. Not a good look for the US or Sydney.
You're obviously smoking something. Sydney split 47.8 while the nearest person was 20-30 meters behind her. She wasn't pushed one but. Go back and watch the video. Keep hoping that somehow Bol will magically beat her. The only way would be if she was juiced up. I look forward to seeing your whining, crying and excuses afterwards.
If she gets what SML gets she would smoke SML. She trains hard and does not hide from competition.
So typical of distance types to want to move sprinters up to distance events. Furthers my belief that many distance types are socialists that can't stand the individuality of sprinters.

Not like the current Women's 800m WR holder is a sprinter who moved up and ran the WR in one of her first attempts at the distance since she was too cautious injury-wise and scratched in the 200m in the same meet...

Bol having to pass four runners is worth more than a tenth of a second. Probably more like 47.6 or 47.7 with clear path. And this was TODAY, not three years ago.. We will see what Syd has in the 4x4.
Syd's split was two years ago, 47.91 so only .02 faster and it comes down to being out front v. passing in heavy traffic. They are dead even over 400 flat in my book. Syd would take a 200 easily as.would Bol for 600.

She does not need the ego streak of running outdoors either.
I never thought the Dutch could run that time, especially with Liemarvin Bonevacia out. But I loved it when heavy rain started to fall a half hour or so earlier That may have played a role, or perhaps not. Whenever there is a heavy favorite it's always best for an intruding variable to disrupt normalcy and the form chart.
Once it didn't break apart early I sensed there was a chance. Klaver is guaranteed to keep it close. The Dutch third Klein-Ikkink is young and not great but he's much better at chase mode than while leading like yesterday.
IMO, the key to the Dutch victory was that Belgium and Great Britain also kept it close. It was like a settling factor for Klein-Ikkink on third leg and stepladder approach for Bol. One at a time. With a huge gap and nobody in between it would have been more demoralizing and also more difficult to pace.
I have no idea how Bol remains so calm and patient with that type of deficit. It is unprecedented in relay terms. In 2022 world indoors women's relay and 2022 world championship mixed she left it very late and came up just short. Fortunately with the entire world watching and her best chance at Olympic gold at stake she got it just right tonight.
I concede I didn't think the Dutch could win tonight. But that wasn't even fractionally as wrong as all the divot brains who have long insisted that Bol should skip the mixed relay.
