Grant won’t post here and he can speak for himself but this post (bloviating) is excellent. Grant has grown and improved with every coach he has had. Each situation has been different and each has provided insight into what he wanted to reach his goals. As his first coach and current coach, I think it’s great to have learned other systems and benefited from other groups (Stanford and BTC).
And as a side note, I (Mike), am EXTREMELY thankful for all the positive energy and support you have all shown toward Grant’s career and success. It truly matters. It just does. And he (and WE) can feel it as he performs on the biggest stage. So, to most (almost all) of you reading LR, thanks:)
Cheers:)

Thanks again, Mike, for posting.
Was wondering: Is Grant staying in the Olympic Village? Or elsewhere?
If the latter, could that have contributed to his super performance by avoiding all the cardboard bed and limited food issues at the OV we having been reading about?
Grant is staying elsewhere. The Village is great but when you consider that many of the athletes (1/3? 1/2?) are done competing by the time Athletics begins (Track and Field), you can’t sleep or get any quiet time because of the atmosphere. So that was the main reason. The AC issue wasn’t easily resolved either and we just couldn’t risk it so we made a plan was to stay elsewhere months ago….

Grant is an American hero, can't wait to see him someday tear it up in the marathon and send Kiplimo Kejelcha Berega etc. home devastated again.
Not only was the coaching change clearly beneficial to his performance, but I think it was a positive for his reputation as well. With the way the burritogate saga was handled by JS, anyone who stayed with BTC would be competing under cloud of suspicion. Fair or unfair, their accomplishments would be accompanied by more public skepticism than most other track athletes receive.
Fisher distanced himself from that mess and then got better. That's a good look.
Too much wheel sucking to be a “hero”

Ummm...no he's not. His speech was fine several years ago. Give it a rest libby, your parties time will be over soon.

Much obliged, MIke, for the response above.
You guys thought of everything, including sending Grant back to St Moritz for the few days between his 10,000 medal ceremony (where they wanted to give him the silver medal :-)) and his 5,000 prelim in a couple days.
Regarding the 5000: with Cheptegei just announcing his withdrawl from the race, and no Mo Katir this year -- the only 5k or 10k guy other than Jakob whom Grant has never beaten -- Grant's fortunes in this event are looking pretty rosy.
If Grant does medal in the 5k, he will become the first US runner to ever medal in both the 5k and 10k at an Olympics or World Championships.
Good one!!
Thanks again, Coach, for keeping us in the loop.
article in the NYT yesterday about Grant and his new (old) coach https://www.nytimes.com/2024/08/06/world/olympics/grant-fisher-5000m-coach.html
> But high-profile departures had set Bowerman back after Jerry Schumacher, the team’s head coach, added to his responsibilities in 2022 by becoming the head coach at the University of Oregon.
> And while Fisher remained with Bowerman through last summer, his season came unglued when an injury resulted in a fourth-place finish in the 10,000 meters at nationals. He missed the world championships.
> “I can’t get onto the podium if I’m not on the team,” he said. “I need to be healthy.”
By that fall, Fisher was ready to make a change. He wanted more control over his training schedule. He also wanted to live at high altitude, which had worked well for him in the past...
> “The joy I had working with Mike in high school is still there now,” Fisher said, “the joy of having someone who’s as invested in your journey as you are.”
That's pretty damning 😃
