Terrible shoes, terrible coach.
Terrible shoes, terrible coach.
And consider too with Monaco that Olli talked at some length on the podcast about how driving to Monaco from St Moritz really messed up his body.
Hard at the same time to take the foot so far off the gas a few weeks out from an Olympics, but you have to think somethings gone wrong given he ran 3:49 with a strong finish in London a few weeks ago.
Gutted for Ollie
You're right. The way they described that drive to Monaco it sounded like a silly risk to take. Mentioned diplomatically multiple times that it had messed up his body as noted by their team physio. Small margins. Was it the best way for them to travel or was it penny pinching?

Jakob also drove to Monaco from St Moritz…the other alternative is a drive/train to Zurich then fly to Nice. It takes about the same amount of time.

Is this a joke? It's a 6 hour car ride max - and that was enough to mess up the body of a 27 year old elite athlete? Was he sitting in the back of a U-Haul?! I ran meets in Europe where we were driven across borders in minivans - trips of 4-6+ hours and these were in the 1-2 days between races! If that was enough to mess his body up then I would really be asking questions of how I am managing my body. F-me.
On the bright side - Sage Hurta-Klecker ran 4:19PR last night.

Meh, Hoare criticizes and makes fun of everyone but himself. I’m sure he’ll find someone or something else to blame for choking TWICE in two days.
Apparently Ritz is a terrible coach now! He only coached a world indoor champion, a commonwealth games champion, Nuguse to a 3:43 mile, three men to 3:29 1500's, Monson to US records in the 5 and 10k, Obri to multiple major marathon wins not to mention multiple Olympians, national champions and diamond league winners. Who saw Klecker running 12:55 and 27:07 out of college? Or Monson running US records. He's not perfect and seems to struggle to peak people right for major championships but he's an excellent coach and will only get better as he gets more experience. Some of these posts are way overboard.

I wonder who is the pupil and who is the teacher in the Ritz–Helen relationship.
