Oh yeah that's it. Mu is going to fly across the country and pay a grand in airfare and hotel just to win an extra grand. Give me a break.
Do you think an Olympic gold medalist/WC gold medalist/American Record Holder pays for plane flights and hotels at meets? That's cute.
She could fall and DNF and still make more money than almost everyone else in the field just from her appearance fee alone.
How much do you think Mu is getting paid to run the "Hollaway Pro Classic"? Probably not much. If the Olympic gold medalist/WC gold medalist/American Record Holder wanted a healthy appearance fee, I am SURE, the DL London meet next weekend offered her tons more. Kersee clearly doesn't care about appearance fees. He doesn't want her to race Hodgkinson.
She's ducking Hodgkinson. And Moraa. If she had the mettle to straight up race them, she would have entered the July 20th London DL meet.
This.
I'm a huge Athing Mu fan but it would indeed make more sense to join this race.
How so? London is a long way to travel for a one-off race. If she’s going to race in Europe, it makes a lot more sense to go over there in mid to late August when there will be more meets for her to enter.
Other than replying to your post, I could care less about Mu. Nia didn't whine like a baby when Mu tripped her up in 2021.
I haven't seen a response from Mu since the 800m. Can you link to where she has 'whined like a baby' for the rest of us to see? I thought she went silent.
I don't think it's unfair to attribute Kersey's media grandstanding to Mu when she goes radio silent after crashing out of the trials.
I thought they said that she had a torn hamstring just prior to the Trials?
Oh well, at least she's racing.
Well we won't know until the day of, as usual. Frankly no one cares whether she races or not. More important runners to look forward to shortly at the Games
This is crazy. oh she had a torn hammy. Let’s file a protest. Let’s not race. Etc.
Was a big fan of Mu, just not anymore. Don’t want to hear about injury. or wanting to model and not race. Keep The Coach silent too. Race and we all can enjoy that. Just leave out the excuses.
Why not? If she’s recovered from her injuries and feeling good, she might as well see if she can run some fast times.
Plus: Hasn’t the biggest criticism of her been her lack of racing? I would think people would be glad to see her in a race again.
That's a very bizarre meet for Athing Mu to race in. There is a Sound Running women's 800 in Los Angeles in 8 days. Why in the world would Athing Mu travel all the way to Florida when there is a perfectly good pro 800 in her home town?
That was for Sports Illustrated and suckers. Kersee finds injuries when needed, like Sydney skipping world championships last year instead of risking vs Paulino
I'll go back to what I posted after Eugene. Mu in 2023 showed up out of shape in Budapest, then less than a month later ran 1:54 high in Eugene. She used that example to rationalize that she could have even less urgency in 2024. Show up at trials in 1:57 shape, scrape onto the team, then work like hell toward Paris.
That's why she believes she can suddenly chase world records. It's the same timetable except no Paris. Injuries were garbage.

"By running at the Holloway Pro Classic in Gainesville, Florida, she’ll placate fans, and she’ll challenge the narrative that the woman who raced more than 30 times the year that she won the Olympics has become a reluctant competitor."
Athing Mu became an Olympic champion at age 19. After a disastrous race on Monday June 24, there was speculation that she was pondering early retirement at the
Athing Mu is not running this meet and I said in another thread you most likely will never see her race again. She is amazing but she will not be able to wait on the bench for four years until LA '28. She has other interests.
