If she's healthy enough for the olympics she needs to drop a revenge time in the 400 or 800. Otherwise everything worked out the way it should.
Heck, if she wanted to be in the relay pool she could have entered or just set up a 400 somewhere, kinda like what our man Corrigan did setting up a run at the steeple standard. It would have been a heck of a story if she could have dropped a good enough time to warrant consideration. I'm not even sure if it would have mattered if she did it in that week between the end of the WA ranking window and the final selection date, since a qualified country's pool picks aren't individually tied to the WA rankings.
Totally agree with this.
But the real issue poor Athing Mu has is that she has come to hate her existence as a professional athlete. Whether that is down to the burden of her own expectations or the onboarding of what she thinks everyone else's are of her, down to even what her day to day life is in the training group occult of Bobby Kersee - I think the last thing she wants to do is be near a running track right now.
Why? I don’t believe there are 4 American women better than her in the 400
Aside from all the reasons others have mentioned, there is no MECHANISM to put her in the pool/on either the women's or mixed 4x4. From the USATF document on Olympic team selection procedures:
"§ In order to be eligible for the relay pool, an athlete must compete in the Selection Event."
Athing did not compete in the 400 at the Trials. Other athletes not in the relay pool can compete in the relay if they are on the Olympic team, which is how Sydney, Delila, and Athing ended up on the women's 4x4 in Tokyo (and Rai Benjamin on the men's 4x4). Athing did not run the 400 at the Trials and she is not otherwise on the U.S. Olympic team, so she simply is not eligible.

That's a very fair argument. The issue is that it's an argument. Love watching Mu race, wish she were at the Olympics, but she and Kersee took a gamble that didn't pay off.
She's only the 1000th elite American track athlete to be disappointed/devastated that she isn't going to the Olympics due to lack of meeting the qualification standards. Why is Parker Wolfe any different, or countless others over the years? Because we IMAGINE her to be a world class 400M runner?
and lhe lousiest PR ever seen, as in non existant.
lots of athletes have mental and physical injury. it is par fir thecourse.
Mu needs basic support.
the PR team could have said, after the olympic year, Mu as a young athlete will probably take it easier next year .. and recover from a wonderful but very exhasuting year.
and announce shes injured , or update fans.
after all , it is attention of people, model athlete, that pays the bills ultimatelty.
It’s an Olympic marathon and you just never really know. I think he has a shot if he goes hard (gradually) and doesn’t fall apart like he almost did at the trials.

...
She didn't run a round in the 400m at the trials, haven't posted a 400m or 4 x400m redult in 2024, and reportedly has an injury...WHY would she be in the relay pool? 🤔
