If you don't know the law - just don't say anything. He is not a felon.
Explain how he's not a felon. You made the claim, now back it up.
Convicted on 34 felony counts.
Don't just talk out of your ass. Enlighten everyone.
Sally's point (that has been made far too many times after baiting stupid arguments) is that a person becomes a felon after the judge enters the verdict at the sentencing, and not before.
It has been a big talking point in right way la la land. "Trump ISN'T a FELON!" with little regard for the fact that he will be on July 11th.
It's hair splitting that wastes everyone's time and energy and is patently juvenile.

Honor Roll so you need the law explained to you. No problem - happy to oblige. What we have so far is a jury verdict of guilt - nothing more. You following? Just a jury verdict. There is no conviction UNTIL the judge issues a judgement of guilt. We don't have that - so Dr. Trump no convictions.
I have a JD from a top ten ranked law school. Do you?
I have a MBA from a M7. Trump's trial was a sham - who cares that his records were slightly sloppy?
The jury didn't find that his records were "slightly sloppy." They found that he made a payment to cover up a negative story to avoid it coming out prior to election, intentionally falsified the payments to make it look like legal payments rather than payments for an NDA.
I think we can quibble about how bad that really is, but it wasn't sloppy bookkeeping. I think the connection to "fraud on the public" is a bit overwrought because many people try to hide stories and pay to do it in politics, but that is the same reason that John Edwards was tried by a jury for similar payments.
America would be a much better place if no politician felt they could cover up payments to cover up news stories. If you want to run for public office, your life should be more or less an open book. Paying people off to kill stories or keep things from public eye really shouldn't be allowed.
The real crimes occurred in Georgia and in trying to overturn an election. That's what I want to see him convicted of, because the dumb white collar crimes that every rich person does are less critical to maintaining a democracy for my children to live in than a sitting president calling GA officials and pressuring them to flip the results for him, which scares the crap out of me and should scare the crap out of you, too.

It's like a "place these events in order" IQ test question. Sally is correct and all the downvotes from the ignorant masses don't change that.

I'm also a lawyer. What do you think having a jury verdict of guilt is? It's a conviction. He is a convicted felon.
He hasn't been sentenced. But make no mistake, he been convicted, 34 times over.
You are 100% wrong.
Convicted - having been declared guilty of a criminal offense by the verdict of a jury or the decision of a judge.

Sally is wrong. You are wrong. There is no sentencing hearing without first a conviction.

The "Trump isn't a convicted felon until the judge takes administrative action to file a form" is basically the same argument as "Joe Biden didn't win the election until Mike Pence acknowledges the electoral slates!" so I can see how you sillynannies went down this path, I guess.
It would have been much better for Trump if Hunter was found innocent. The false narrative of Biden controlling the justice system has been crashed.
Also the modelling of proper respect for a result from the justice system by democrats, makes republicans look very very bad.
It's not a false narrative. They do control the justice system which is why they had Hunter be found guilty. Now everyone can falsely say the justice system isn't rigged.

Sally is basing her position on this New York Post article in which a lawyer says:
“You are not convicted until the judge enters that judgment of guilt. Now, in New York, it’s very likely that Judge Merchan will enter that judgment of guilt against Trump on the same day that he issues sentencing. That’d be July 11th.”
The right wing has rallied around that to hope that something could happen before sentencing to prevent Trump from ever becoming a felon.
They are using it to bait arguments like the ones in this thread. It is a waste of time and is juvenile.
Yale Law professor Jed Rubenfeld says there’s a way former President Donald Trump’s legal team could limit the impact of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s case on the 2024…
