In Valby's post race interview with Citius, Valby said Nike made them special for her with the spikes, interesting.
Additionally interesting is whether she wears them for the 5k Saturday, in which the collegiate Outdoor record could be broken. Makes sense too, unless they want to also try and go for the OlyStandard.
I just watched the somewhat humorous interview. Valby said she will not racing in those shoes, but instead in something “spicy”. She was asked if she will be going for the OlyStandard on Saturday, and she jokingly replied, “I have a race on Saturday”. There were questions about what her last collegiate race will mean to her.
I won’t be shocked if she goes for the OlyStandard on Saturday.
She lapped All-Americans. I dunnoo.... If you get lapped should you even be an All-American?
In that case, there were very few All-Americans in 1998. She lapped almost the entire field. Definitely got 6th place and I think she may have caught 4th/5th.

Valby's impressive win in the Vaporflys with spikes, clocking in at a remarkable 31:46.09, is a testament to their skill and determination on the track. Such a performance showcases the capabilities of both the athlete and the innovative footwear they chose to wear. Congratulations to Valby on their outstanding achievement!
I don’t think she’ll go for the standard Saturday. The slower the race, the better chance for her 1500 teammate, who is also in the 5k, will have at placing and scoring points
Giving one person in a race equipment of bespoke construction (rather than just a unique cosmetic design) goes against the ethos of track and field. We don't know that it confers a competitive advantage, but we know that these shoes weren't reasonably available to everyone in the race. It's not a level playing field.
I’m not sure how your “ethos” interpreatation accommodates the hundreds of different models of shoes out there on NCAA tracks, not counting any personal mods that have been made to the shoes. Maybe the NCAA has rules on the subject.
Quite easily: all those models should be, or have been available to buy if other athletes want them. Nobody else in that field could have worn those Vaporflys with spikes even if they wanted to, they were available to one runner only.
The NCAA could easily just adopt the WA rules which would also allow prototypes that have been submitted to WA and cleared for competition. Sorry, but this stinks. Worse, it's totally unnecessary as I'm fairly sure Valby would have won in spikes or off the shelf Vaporflys. This is just a stunt by Nike, similar to when that athlete won the Vienna marathon wearing the Adidas Prime X which were not race legal.
You didn’t read Canova’s reasoning on why it should be acceptable? That’s okay…he’s said some ‘interesting’ things in the past.

Exactly this. Nike is giving us every reason not to like Valby and they have no idea.
It's legal for the NCAA - but the results also count for World Athletics - this has been perplexing me for years. I made a post about it years ago about Dylan Jacobs...
I'm sure I'm wrong, perhaps not... I think I heard somewhere that competitors can wear supershoes at NCAAs because the NCAA's a law of its own.I checked the NCAA rules and it seems that you can wear any stack height. NCAA rul...

Valby would be lapped by the best women in the world. Should you even consider yourself a champion at that point?
uhhhh, 99% of the turds that post here with such confidence and authority would be lapped by the best women in the world. should they even be allowed to comment on elite female runners?
Technology is always pushing the boundaries and its up to the governing bodies to determine legality. Ethos and tradition are a thing, but look at golf clubs, golf balls, racing bikes, etc. Greg Lemond in the '88(?) Tour de France blew everyones minds away using aero bars and maybe carbon wheels. He made up over a minute on the last day time trial to win the TdF. Purists moaned for 30 seconds, and now its the norm.

I don't really care what she ran in or runs in in the future. She behaved like an arrogant jerk last night. It was so disrespectful to the other women out there that worked hard to get there and were taking the race seriously. If she thinks she is too good to race with them, then she should just go pro so she can run in a place where she can show some humility.
I stayed up to watch her run. I was becoming a fan, but last night after she passed Hilda I turned it off because I could not watch her win after acting like that. I did not think it was possible for Parker Valby to appear ugly, but last night she did. People on this site bash the rabid Tuohy fans and want to compare running stats, but Tuohy has the fan base she does because she is a class act. For many years she could have behaved like an arrogant jerk too. She had the grounds, but we have never seen her behave that way, not even as a very young high schooler. Valby just graduated from college and she was out there in a national championship acting like a bratty 12 year old. She has an ego the size of house. Not a good look. Here's the thing - her people might tell her to clean that up and she will just to protect her image. Unfortunately I have seen this arrogance creeping in (not as blatant as last night), and that is the real PV. Any grace she shows after last night is just a performance - damage control. I don't really care how fast she runs now.

She is very much the latest in the long line of Nike's "win at all costs" attitude, of which a feature is sticking your nose up at the competition/press/fans and generally just acting like you are better than everyone. Other runners are sick of this crap from Valby already.
I know that Gwen Jorgensen had a pair of these as well. They were made for her by someone at Nike in Beaverton and were never intended to be released as a production shoe. The guy who made them was/is super clever and they were hardly any heavier than the regular Vaporflys.
Personally, I would love to have a pair since I run a lot of my tempo runs on the track and the track is also wet (PNW = rainy Winters).
The logic behind her wearing the modified Vaporfly spikes may have been to keep her legs from getting as beaten up for Saturday.
