Rain or even impending rain contributes to the charging the air with negative ions. Even being close to a body of water helps (Stadion Louis II is literally right at the edge of the Ligurian Sea, Letzigrund is close Lake Zurich, Helsinki which was also a great place for distance running is very close to water, so is Olso...)
Sure, but nowhere in that paper did it say that rain adds oxygen to the air. Cool paper though.

No - it's not about adding oxygen to the air per se. But I think this was what the original reference was about.

There's less. This is beginning chemistry.
Molecular weight of dry air is ~29. Dry air is ~ 80%N2 and 20%O2
Saturated air has ~4% water vapor. When you replace dry air with H2O then the O2 concentration drops, as well as N2.
