Based on his talent that I see, IMO, he will be a Bekele+
When you think about it, it would be epic to have won the Olympic Gold from 1500-10000m, and he has already got the hardest one.
Though to be a Bekele+, he would also need some dominance over cross-country as well as Double Golds in 5k/10k obivously.
I'm ok with that criticism. But his approach is very unique. He's becoming the best, absolute best miler he can possibly be out of himself, then moving up 3k-5k. It's pretty cool. Think if he ever runs 3:42. With is aerobic strength/LT think how easy 60's would feel? I just can't wait to see. It really makes it fun for a track fan. Especially myself who is a mere mortal 15:20/32:00 lifetime best guy lol.
Jakob will finish his career with the same number of Olympic 1500m golds as El G, but a much lower number of world championship golds.
El Guerrouj won his first world championship when he was 22 years old. Jakob is only 23. You are so unbelievably stupid.
And since winning that one and only 1500m gold, he’s gone 0 for 3. So his advancing age hasn’t led to more gold. If anything, it shows that his one gold in that event was a fluke that came about from having another runner essentially serve as his pacer. Without such help, he has failed to win three times in a row. So it turns out you are the one who is unbelievably stupid for thinking he can get even close to El G’s 7 1500m golds just because of his age.

Yeah, I’m sure El Guerrouj would not have wanted Jakob’s resume of wins and world records before he was 23 right, I mean his silvers are just so unimpressive for his age 🙄. Also half of El Guerroujs WC wins were paced, so really only 3-4 of the wins counted according to your reasoning. It’s funny because he also lost with a pacemaker in 2000, even more embarrassing according to your logic. Age has everything to do with this. El Guerrouj won well into his late twenties, you can’t just extrapolate that because Jakob losing once in an indoor championship with Covid, and twice with not great tactics or sickness in his early twenties while still getting SILVER, something El Guerrouj would still be content with, that he will not win many more championships.
I have a hard time understanding why Jakob hasnt raced before Pre, if he really cares about winning the race. It is unlikely that he will be able to run really fast in his first race for the season. And with such a strong field, he might actually lose if he isnt in race shape.
Is he simply viewing it as a ”warm up” race before Oslo?
Well as has been mentioned he doesn't have a lot of choice - it's a pretty integral part of his deal with Nike and I doubt they would be too happy if he showed up in Oslo a few days later in any sort of shape (which for him is still clearly a very high level).
Does he care about winning? Of course he does - but I also believe he's mature and grounded enough to not lose his mind if he doesn't. And yeah, I do think he sees it as a warmup or sorts for Oslo - again two things can be true at once, he can still want to win and also see it as a progression step towards Olso and then his obvious goals in Paris.
Regarding "racing before Pre" - guys like Jakob don't really need races per se. I mean look at the way he runs each race on the circuit - it's him vs the lights. Point being, any kind of "race" tune-up can be easily replicated in a controlled time trial situation. In that respect I would be surprised if he hadn't ripped off at least a fast 1200m in training prior to this.
And to that point Kerr has one 800m under his belt and Nuguse one mile in this current outdoor season - it's not like they are peaking for Prefontaine either (don't forget last year was a massive aberration as usually Pre is never a meet anyone is in top form for). He's still the most talented guy - I'm not as confident of him winning as usual but if I had to bet $$$ on one guy it would still be him.
How many straw man arguments can you fit in one post? I never said his one 1500m didn’t count. In fact, I included it in his 1-4 record. I never said what he’s done isn’t impressive. This isn’t about that. It’s about whether he’ll get close to El G’s 7 1500m golds. The answer is No.

As a Jakob's fanboy, I agree. I hope he focuses on the 5k (and 10k) rather than the 1500, because he can definitely be a Mo Farah+, rather than El G-.
I think he can be both if he stays healthy. People are too pessimistic about his potential in the 1500m. I some times wonder if they have watched the DL races from the last 2 seasons.
But I don´t think he will run the 10000m unless the schedule is changed so the 10000m is the last event (and then the 5000m should probably be the first one).

Straw man arguments? Your entire first post on this thread was a strawman argument, by just isolating his wc wins and then comparing it to El Guerrouj without considering lengths of careers, ignoring all other races, wins, and times. Then somehow making a point that his win was a fluke. Its quite hilarious how inept you are.

I responded to someone saying they are both nearly unbeatable, and I showed they are not the same in that regard when it comes to championship racing. Last I checked, that’s what matters the most.
I understand your feelings are hurt because the guy you worship has repeatedly failed to win the most important 1500 race of the year. You’re just going to have to learn to deal with it because that 1-4 record will soon be 1-5.

Run the 10000m as a third race of an attempted triple? There’s no way he would possibly risk the humiliation of finishing 30 seconds, or more, behind the leaders. He’s never even run one, and wouldn’t have confidence in being competitive. Given his recent fragility, running it would be nuts, anyway.
The Olympics are more than two months away. That is the race everyone is pointing for. Jakob, Kerr, Wightman and Nuguse have only 1 race among them at 1500/mile this outdoor season. If Jakob had a choice he would probably skip Pre but he's a Nike athlete so he is contractually obliged to race there.
That's a great find - I could see how that was easily remembered as dodgeball - it was a gym game, no big deal.
But yeah, obviously a hyper competitive kid - great line that immediately followed with Gert referencing the conversations with his teachers about "discouraging his eagerness to be the best".
Guess where Jakob is now - hasn't done too bad for himself.

I'm a day late to the bootlicking pre-race excuse circlejerk by the Jakob fans? darn....

Advancing age? He is and will be 23 this entire season.
0 for 3? If you ignore his 2 5k WC titles. And every other race the past 3 years.
How old was EL G when he finally won an OG gold?
List EL G's "7 in a row". He lost 1996 and 2000 OG 1500's. Not counting those in the 7 in a row?
