That was great fun to watch - really makes you wish you were attending in person, delighted to see such a quality event right here in Blighty.
Must say that I was quite annoyed by Chelanga’s antics, certainly made it difficult for Dever to go past (though no one can argue that it cost him the W - Ishmael was just way stronger at the end). At least he got the British title.

When Dever first lapped him, I got the impression that Chelenga was helping him out for a couple of laps and letting him sit.
Bit when Dever wanted to push, Chelenga started to race again which, as you say, was nonsense.
There was also a lot of nonsense with pacers in a few of the races. I have to say, some of the runners went out like clowns, started jostling with the pacers and then imploded halfway through the race.
Some really moranic running in a few races tonight. People fighting to get ahead of pacers who were on agreed pace then falling apart when leading. Tuck in and save something, it's not that hard.
O'Keefe looked great in her epic duel with the young Brit.
They had pace lights for the OlyStandard. O’Keefe fell off them around the 12:50 mark, and Warner-Judd came up around her to try and keep pace, but by then they were several meters behind Niyomukunzi, who hung onto the lights the longest. Already possessing the OlyStandard, Keith just hung back watching/stalking.
All the hype and the elite times were pretty darn average
Who cares? The racing was brilliant. I'm not interested in watching time trials. If that's all you want, then you don't even need to watch the races, just read the results list and the splits
Hard luck for Dever, he went for broke and held on pretty well. I hope it's enough to get him to Paris on the rankings. Again though, a great race and just well-presented. There's a blueprint for presenting track and field here and no one else seems to want to follow it. It's genuinely weird that no one is learning.
The big thing about any event is that when people see it on TV, it needs to make them stop and think "man, I wish I was there for that." Track and field always looks sparsely attended and a bit staid on TV. Night of the 10k PBs is the one event that looks fun to attend
I had that exact thought (second paragraph) while watching the event. Very few running events feel like that.
It's a simple idea, but it's not enough for a sport to simply be on TV to get people hooked. It needs to look like there's a crowd there that are enjoying the buzz. Attendance at Night of the 10ks is only around 5,000 but very one is close together and it has the energy of a buzzy event. The LA Grand Prix undoubtedly had better athletes, but the event itself had no vibe to it. The crowd was probably bigger as well. It took spread out so it looked unimpressive.
I’m not sure how elites taper and I know they can tolerate very high mileage but this was her mileage from last Sat:
Sat - 16 miles, Sun, 7.5, Monday 10, Tuesday 10 (then I’m guessing an overnight flight) no rest though as she then ran Weds in London 5.8 miles, Thursday 11.7, Friday 7.11 then a couple more Sat am.
She says on her insta that she felt off from 2/3 miles in and when she realised she was not on for a PB she stepped off. She said maybe heat/humidity but surely she is used to that?
Could have just been a bad day in the office but could have been tired legs/not enough of a taper.
