At least one year of college racing would have been good for him so he could develop racing skills. He had the 3rd fastest time in the US last year but only finished 6th at the US championship. Why? Poor racing skills. In contrast, a collegian who sharpened his racing skills in the NCAA made the team.
I am a little worried about Kessler becoming the next Alan Webb in terms of championship mettle and acumen. This is a big year for him. I do believe he is the best US 1500m runner outside of Nuguse at the moment, and I hope to see him have success. That 800-3000 range is outstanding.
Fair enough. I think Kessler is coming along well. I'd be very surprised if he is not on the Oly team. No reason to be edged out by anyone other than Nuguse and Hocker.
If he does not make the team,, its a dropped ball. Of course, he has many opportunities ahead (only 21 years old right now).

I agree. But I do want to see this cat make a team and, eventually, be in the hunt for a medal. He's a super talent. Probably more natural talent than any of them besides maybe Nuguse.
Not after that 800m in LA. Hoppel a lock, Jewitt 1:44, and Miller is back in form 1:44.
From US#3 to US#6 in less than 24 hours
I’ve now seen his race. Moved out to “almost” lane 3 between 200m and 300m. was on outside of lane 1 after the 400m. Fought his way up to first being totally boxed in the last 100m. That was really a 1:44.5
Hobbs is a 1500m runner with strength and 800m speed. Warhurst knows what he is doing. Nick Willis can tell you that. Also remember Hobbs is 21. He will medal in 2028. Probably not this year
He ran a 1:45.07 in the b heat of the LA Grand Prix.
Hobbs might has more talent in the 800m than the 1500m. Clayton Murphy was viewed as more of a 1500m runner before winning an Olympic medal. I think Hobbs could / should do the same thing.
i dunno man. hobbs is a speedy miler for sure, as is wightman, but let's be real he ain't beatin amos / korir / arop / hoppel in an 800 lol
Keep in mind, Laros is 2yrs/1 month YOUNGER than Kessler and is the better guy to this point. Just turned 19 last month and his list of PRs is sensational.
It wasn't foolish to question his decision to skip college. He ran 3:34.7 in high school. Where he is now is certainly no further than he would have been in college, and judging by what Mike Smith has done with Nico, Sahlman and others, he'd likely be better. Ron has a slow developing plan for sure, a long-term plan, but he hasn't exactly developed at lightning speed from where Ron already had him as a senior in high school. He's a contender and a medal winner indoors right now, a 1:45 guy who might just run sub-1:44 this year if he tries after the Olympics. He might run low 3:30 this year. So, awfully good, but no better improvement certainly than NAU guys who were multiple seconds slower in hs, to this point.

Maybe foolish was the wrong choice of words. It was an obvious choice in my opinion. One year max in college. Btw, he actually went 3:34.36 in HS and that was lower than the NCAA record.
