Why do you think his speed is what holds him back? He consistently runs 53s or faster for the final 400 in championships.
What holds him back in championships is that he leads too early. What holds him back from getting the 1500/mile WR is literally nothing but opportunity and a little more time. He's run 3:43 and is only 23 years old in a time when world class runners can run their best at 25-27 years old.

here's what people like you don't understand. and there are many of you here. if you let the race go slow, you leave a chance for at least half the field to stay in the race. If you and maybe one or two others are capable of hot pace for all 1500 meters, you take the race out of the hands of several people who would otherwise still be in it. it's just playing the odds. Jakob can absolutely outkick anybody out there in a slower race on a given day. but why would he let the cole hockers of the world stay in the race when he can burn them off by the time 2 laps have gone by.

Exactly! If Cole Hocker for your example is with Jakob with 400 to go he will have absolutely nothing left and Jakob wins easily.
