Runners like to join little niche clubs and hang for a few years in odd parts of the USA to make it. In L.A. there's no niches. For hundreds of miles around L.A. it's one big club of runners, football players, MMA/UFC fighters, etc. It's better in L.A.

Mt Sac, Beach, Nryan Clay, Triton, Aztec, etc. has all but wiped out nearly all track meets in North America.
No wonder, on any given day L.A.'s 200 miles of beaches has 250,000 runners.
On holiday weekends, 2,000,000 runners per day hit the L.A. beach boardwalks.

I find it comical that you hand-pick Evert Silva to highlight the men's 1500 field, when in fact you had numerous NCAA Champions, AND a Freaking Olympic Champion competing. The winner (Colin Sahlman) nearly ran the Olympic standard and almost broke the NCAA record (which btw was set @ this meet several years ago). You're trying too hard son. Go back to Mt Sac.

So the worst Stanford could have done last year was NCAA XC individual champ, outdoor 10k and 5k champ and second in the 10k? That's pretty good.

Before the line "Build IT and They will Come" from the 1989 Hollywood movie "Field of Dreams" started the US stadium buildout bonanza there was no other nice places for T&F other than West and Central Los Angeles. Now we're back to pre-1989 to a certain degree as the focus of our sport has now shifted to Southern California with a population of 25,000,000 people.
