In post-NCAA interviews, both she and Kimberly May talked about racing each other as teenagers. Seems like Maia actually spent a lot of formative years there. She'd also lived in many countries around the world, and I think her parents are Kiwis as well.

Wellington is her region she represented possibly because that is where are politicians/diplomats are employed from? Maia was a school year above Kim May so probably beat her 19/20 however they have both developed amazingly in the college system and I would imagine that they will both stay in the USA and turn pro once college is over.
She is from Ethiopa, She is First and Foremost Ethiopian, She is a Good Runner as many Ethiopians are, Her Father is a New Zealander, her Mother is American of course she will Compete for New Zealand as it is easier to make Teams for Olympics/ Worlds as Making the USA team is very hard, Ethiopia is Extremely Hard. If you were in the same Boat as her would'nt you compete for the Country you could make? Rather than The Very hard to make USA Team or her Native Country where she has a better chance to Win the Lotto than making that Team, She did what most people would do, she is not violating any rules so no one should have a problem with it.
