Valby is funny, she likes to troll and play around with what people do/dont know about her. Like the 90mpw jokes, 1 hr of sleep, no water etc. I wouldn’t take it all completely literally, but it’s great she has a sense of humor about it.
Rojo asked her what the huge bruises on her legs were (looked like cupping to me), she said they were interpretive art tattoos and refused to elaborate further. Pretty funny sarcastic trolling and doesn't bother explaining the joke to older people who clearly don't get it lol.
rojo’s question before that was probably a bit unnerving. The girl just completed the 5k/3k in amazing fashion, and rojo is questioning why she didn’t go pro like Katelyn Tuohy went pro. Seriously? The way the question was framed, and particularly in that venue, at that particular time, was just rude, besides the fact the question has already been asked and answered on this board numerous times makes the question even more rude. So justifiably so, Valby is wondering “what in the world? where is he coming from? here we go again.”
So then the follow-up question about her bruises, even if rojo was genuinely curious, was obviously, to her not from a perspective of empathy or concern, so she ended up stonewalling him.

The human psyche is complex. I’m not saying rojo intentionally was trying to goad her to be rude. I think this is an example case where others, in the past, say he is sometimes not basically “self aware”.
And I can’t pretend to be able to comprehend or pretend to be able to handle the pressures faced by a female collegiate D1 athlete, so I don’t want to judge a coping mentality “how’s my hair? How’s my makeup? Do you like my nails?” So then, she may very well have been self-conscious about how “ugly” her bruises looked, and had probably already answered the question about them numerous times before that, to the point of being callous, defensive about it, to finally joking about it. Who knows?

If he asked her that, he's even more of a jerk than I thought. No wonder athletes don't want to give him interviews.
