Yeah, Wolfe was kinda overshadowed by nico young. But no longer! After last night, he's vaulted into the stratosphere of US distance running fame. I'm sure his life will be changed, from this point on.
He'll start getting pro offers from this point onward. and he's only 20?
Wolfe is now 21 and 4 plus months. It's amazing how good he has become. Strand just turned 22.

Wolfe isn’t even the best runner on his team. He’s gutsy but I don’t see him making a Worlds or Olympic team.

Do you even follow the sport? Wolfe was 3rd at the Olympic Trials as a college junior in 2024. The only reason he didn't go to the Olympics is because his coach never had him chase the Olympic standard during the collegiate season and they didn't let people chase after the trials anymore.
Valby but whether she likes it or not. She needs to learn to draft and develop a kick instead of doing 98% of lead work and getting beat in the end. She has proven she’s talented and proven she can learn ways to improve. Now she’s racing pros she has more learning to do.
In an Olympic or WC qualifier, she needs for the race to be run at a fast pace and if she doesn’t set it, no one else will. She’ll never be a kicker. Do you believe Salazar should have learned to draft while developing a kick?

True but at the end of the day Wolfe is not an Olympian. If they both retired today then Valby is the only Olympian and that gives her the edge. For now.
Parker Valby can end her career tomorrow and will have made more money than most B-list pros as well as has an Olympics under her belt. I think she'll be back in action, but I do wish she went to go train with Diljeet and that crew.
Wolfe is going to do big things with Smith, excited to see this pan out.
Parker Valby can likely make multiple USA teams - 10K for sure - over the next 10 years if she avoids injuries, etc.
Parker Wolfe has much a harder road. I beat he can run a good 10K, but we haven't seen it yet. Making the 5K team in the USA now requires top 10 in the world fitness, Grant, Nico, Blanks, etc - add in the other 5 guys who can run sub 13 today, it will be much more challenging. He does have an elite close (or at least last year he did), but idk, USA runners have leveled up.

Maybe it’s time for him to seek citizenship in some random European (or other) country. Qatar or Bahrain? El Salvador?

Ahhh.... Don't sleep on Wolfe. He's got the talent, he's young, and he will be coached by one of the best coaches in the country, and don't forget that he'll be training at altitude for the first time. Give him a year to acclimate and he'll be sniffing a USA team podium finish (with a qualifying time) very soon.
wolfe could very easily be higher ranked on the world stage but have less "success" than valby because the American women just don't have it right now. It is so much easier for Valby to make a team than Wolfe.

At age 21 Wolfe has significantly faster PRs with better NCAA credentials than Grant Fisher did at Stanford. With Mike Smith at the helm, it's very reasonable see Wolfe's trajectory easily matching Fisher's, if not surpass. And let's not forget that at age 20 as a junior, Wolfe beat a very fit Nico Young and Ky Robinson for the NCAA 5k title. ....Racing against Young, Fisher and Blanks will make for an exciting future for US distance running.
Valby has run one race as a professional. One race in 11 months. With her durability issues, she may not have a long career as a pro. Who is going to want to pay her to not race. Are vlogs about kombucha beneficial to shoe companies?
There's a lot that goes into measuring success of a professional career, but I will say that if the over/under on his highest Olympics finish is 11th place in any event, I will take the over in a heart beat.
Would anyone bet their hard earned money, against even money, that he'll get a top ten?

Does he have better credentials? They each won exactly 1 NCAA title, and Grant was in the top 3 of NCAA XC and track finals much more often than PW was. Grant's time were slower, yes, but that was a different era with different footwear tech.

Yep, I was there. And since then the US landscape is getting more, not less, competitive. Don’t shoot the messenger.
Still a crime to place 3rd at the trials and not have a qualifying time for the olympics. Coaches across the country hopefully took note so this doesn't ever happen again. Imagine Cole Hocker beating Centro, then NOT going to the olympics

That was tough. I know Wolfe was injured this year but I cannot believe he was not in the fast 5k at BU in December that Blanks won and got the standard. If Wolfe was healthy this year, and ran the trials next month he could be in the exact same situation as last year. That to me is a big fail on the unc coaches.
