This is close to my dream. Bekele to win Olympic marathon and cement his status as the overall GOAT. Kipchoge to medal (first man to win marathon medals at three olympics) and show almost the same longevity as Bekele
Hendrik Pfeiffer is missing on this list. PB was recently 2:07:14 in Houston
Good to know, thanks.
Stephen Scullion (IRL - 2:09:49 PB) also announced he's in the field
Very excited to announce I’ll be joining an excellent field & hopefully lots of you guys at @LondonMarathon - London has always been a 2nd home for me & it’s where I qualified for Tokyo Olympics. Who’s joining me there? Or coming to support an electric day! Let’s go 🦁
Mateiko was right with Kiptum at 30k in Chicago @ 2:01:41 pace, and hit 35k still on 2:01:59 pace before dropping out. Give him 2:03:00 pace and there’s a fair chance he survives.
I would call Tola the favorite over Mutiso with Mateiko #3, from an odds perspective. Geremew is a bit of a question mark after being MIA all last year. Dawit Wolde has a fascinating WA profile, having run 3:41/1500 in 2007 and spending most of his career as a 3:33/3:34 guy before running some killer marathons in recent years, including 2:03:48 in Valencia in December.
As amazing as it would be, I can’t honestly imagine Bekele winning this. He’s turning 42 in June - I mean come on, 4th in Valencia in 2:04 was more phenomenal than we have any right to expect. If he places top 5 I would consider it a resounding success. Tough to guess what Kamworor will do but I see him as more likely to sneak onto the podium with another 2:04 than win in a big PR.
After the month-long wait, I admit I am a bit underwhelmed by the men’s field. I thought the young Berlin third-placer might be here, as well as Jemal Yimer and Amos Kipruto
I heard Amos Kipruto might be injured which is unfortunate for him and might cost him the chance of an Olympic spot this year

Are any other Olympic contenders still yet to commit to a spring event? (maybe only Rotterdam left?)
Philemon Kiplimo, Jemal Yimer, Andamlak Belihu, Tadese Takele. What will Kandie be doing while the Olympics are on?
Kandie is confusing! He is qualified for the 10K and might take a crack at Kenyan Trials. Not doing London/World XC makes you wonder if he’s going to cash in on another HM and then all-in on the 10K. He’d be a contender but Ebenyo and Sawe headline a super-deep list of contenders.

Only long shots to make the team I'd think except I was surprised Tadese Takele isn't here though, perhaps Rotterdam, maybe Paris?
I just think with their pedigree over the half, any or all of the other 3 could burn the house down with the type of pacing they were setting up for Kiptum in Rotterdam
Roza has raced exactly once in the past 4 years, in Sapporo. I imagine she's either starting a family or has retired from the sport. If it's the latter it's quite unfortunate. She was such a rising star.

No need to cement something that is already concrete.
The half marathon is different to the whole marathon. Many all time greats in the half took time to do the full marathon at the same level. Some never quite got there

Agree and these three are on their different paths to seeing what they can do at the classic distance

Indeed confusing. If it weren't for his Barcelona HM win his performances have been sub-par thus far this year and I'd worry the contract or lack thereof was affecting his training.
Lisbon HM announced some elites (Abraham Kiptum!?) so that's out but Berlin would be great vs Ebenyo but don't see it necessarily happening.
The way I see the Kenyan men's 10000 likely hood of qualifying right now is something like:
