Jakob’s indoor 3000m PB is 7:40.3 (2023). how fast did he close the last 200m in that race?
Nordas ran a 7:41 recently, closing in 27.0
I don’t know. 25.19 seems fast.
It is fast.
That's why the only way Jakob used to be able to beat any fast runner was to run the wheels of his competition. Now that he's proven in his past two WCs that he can't win that way any longer what is his tactic now? Kerr is almost as strong as Jakob's ever been, his slow ass wheels aren't going to be able to kick Kerr...or Naguse (who closed in 25.26 today while running closer to 205 meters, not 200)
Correct. Jakob does not have an edge on a now much faster field and few great individuals including a WR holder. They can cover any move and likely outkick him and he'd have to be in WR shape to front run to a win. His stock is way down for a 1500 gold now.
Narve Nordas has seen the problem sitting in the catbird seat for first 1200m of 1500m. Maybe he will race boldly in 1500m final. N Nordas will not give Beamish or Beamish-types an opportunity to defeat him again.
Not sure about that. He seems like a bellyacher to me.
I don’t know if he did. But if he didn’t the interesting question is why not. And I think the answer then would be because he likes his races to be fast all the way…(And if one does that nobody closes in 25 low…)
Every top sprinter could jog 1300m, and then close in a sub 22 sec. Guess they would beat Kerr as well then, if only the last 200m’s count, don’t you..? So what’s your point?
Jakob could not close in 25.19 in a 7:45 race. Or an 8:00 race. It is probably not far off his 400 pace. His PR is 51, but obviously he never contests it and I would imagine he can run 48-49. Still, not closing in 25.19.
that is why he has no choice but to lead and make it fast against Kerr, Wightman, maybe even Nuguse. He likes to say he just likes an honest race and wants to go fast, but in reality it’s his only semi-reliable move. And unfortunately for him, those guys have more speed and Kerr has shown he has surprising endurance as well, a bit more than Nuguse and Wightman.
That this got down voted so much shows how delusional many Jakob fan boys have become. Jakob seriously cannot run the wheels off several 1500 runners. Even assuming someone else paces the final (which they won't), they won't be pacing fast enough to zap most of the field so even if Jakob sits on their shoulders there will be at least 2 faster kickers sitting on his shoulder ready to snipe. He's going to need a lot of luck.
I agree, Jakob could never close in 25.19!!!! IMPOSSIBLE!!!! The fastest he ever closed indoors or out in the last 200m in a finals race is 26 low but Kerr seems to be capable of running 24.8 already indoors if he didn't run wide. Imagine what would happen on outdoor track with less tight curves??? Kerr would probably close in 24.2????
It's over for Jakob in Paris, I can't find a way out for him.
Correct. Jakob does not have an edge on a now much faster field and few great individuals including a WR holder. They can cover any move and likely outkick him and he'd have to be in WR shape to front run to a win. His stock is way down for a 1500 gold now.
Sure there’s a logic to what you are saying here. But the thing is that before Jakob’s 2023 season the signs were really down for him (a winter of sickness / injuries). And still he had one of the most smashing seasons we have ever watched..!
That was a 3:50 race that Centro won so it was an outlier race. Such a slow race Josh would have closed the equivalent of 23.9 if needed!!! You can't compare like this. You also need to look at how fast the finishing times are for the type of kicking speed. Anybody can walk for 1300m and sprint 200m in 22.00 seconds right???

Yes, that’s the specific set of circumstances. In this case, even though the field ran 3:50, their 1100m to 1300m segment was too fast for them to be able to run sub 25.2 in the last 200m
…and no. Not “anybody” can run 22.00. I don’t think that any of the top 1500m runners have 22.00 ability.
Remember, the indoor 400m WR holder has a PB of 21.10 at 200m

A good act does not wash out the bad, nor a bad act the good
So, you agree, unless J Ingrebrigtsen has a 300m TT he cares to brag about, he has never finished a race in 25.19 or faster. Sore back or not sore back, it does not matter. You can be a J I fan and admit J I is not as fast as many others. If J I were 20-something years old, 2016, be honest, with 1500m final splitting 1200m in 3:12.0, what place would J Ingebrigtsen have finished?
I’ll say it: Peak Kerr couldn’t close in 25.8 in a 7:23 race. Jakob led almost the whole thing (atrocious pacing), the day after running 3:43 leading almost the whole thing (atrocious pacing). Kerr ran a ~7:25 equivalent getting perfect pacing from Fisher the whole way (going in fresh) and didn’t close that fast.

race after race, the best in the world run what they have to run. for every crazy final 300, 400, or even 800 split you will read about, there are almost always one or two guys right behind them with a split that is within a tenth or few tenths. Even ElG's legendary final 800 kick.
I know Kerr’s pace was slow, but 25.19 is quite fast.
Maybe if Jakob puts enough blindfolds on, he can run at that pace.
jakob wouldn’t be closing in 25.19 because he would be running 7:25 to win by 10 seconds after ratcheting up the pace in the last 3k
What race has Jakob won with a fast time that didn't have pacers??? Honest question. The only one I can think of was 2021 Tokyo 1500 final, but he let Timmy do most of the work. When there are no pacers in a competitive race and he tries to make it a fast race he loses.
The mental gymnastics people have to come up with to discredit the guy with the 5 fastest European 1500 times ever, in his off event, while being far from his prime age, is very entertaining. The only people Jakob is concerned with is catching Komen and El Guerrouj before he starts putting all his focus on the 5000 and above.

It’s not as easy as that -Centro took down competitors with far better 800m speed than Kerr (f.ex Kiprop and Makhloufi)…

Watch Jakob’s pb race in Silesia. -How much draft did he get from the pacers there..?

Will still end up Jakob vs field in the 1500 final, which I would put at 50/50 for all the usual reasons. Almost a guarantee to be a great race with Jakob trying to drain the kickers and hang on.
