Bullsh*t. Just like any other elite athletes, they want to maximize their potential. Harvard ranks with Stanford academically, and Blanks gives running a high priority.
Not to diss on Blanks (who is phenomenal btw), but Blanks wasn't running times anywhere near what the twins are running as a freshman. Check back on this thread in three years.
743-1324-2742...5 X All American. I think Cole Sprout is doing just fine. If Lex and Leo each accomplish this and contribute to NCAA teams and DMRs, I'd say it's a win. The NCAA is a different beast, plus a Stanford degree is also a nice added bonus!
I don't know why this fired me up so much, folks are just so harsh on these young athletes. Grrr. I don't even like Cole Sprout haha.

You’re sticking to your belief that the twins are more interested in partying than maximizing their incredible talent?
From Leo's appendicitis in October to Lex's broken arm last month -- no need to guess -- very good runs by both.
L&L now 1-2 on Stanford's frosh all-time indoor/outdoor 3k list.
Faster at the 3k than Grant Fisher, Ky Robinson, Cole Sprout, Sean McGorty, Chris Derrick, Jonathan Riley, Michael Stember, Gabe Jennings, the Hauser twins, et al, were in their first year on The Farm.
That's it for their indoor season.
Likely to open their outdoor season March 29-30 at the Stanford Invitational.
With Ky & Cole to pull them along, L&L might have a sniff at Nico's 13:24.26 U20 US record.
Fisher ran 750 but it was a redshirt year? Or didn't count because it was on Washington's oversized indoor track?

Redshirt season.
Following, from Stanford's profile on Grant following his frosh indoor season back in 2016:
Redshirted, but ran one race unattached, a memorable one.
Won the 3,000 at the Husky Classic in 7:50.06 over a star-studded field that included 2015 NCAA 1,500 outdoor champ Chad Noelle, 2015 Pac-12 1,500 champ Izaic Yorks, 2010 NCAA 3,000 champ Dorian Ulrey, Cal 1,500 record-holder Thomas Joyce, and Mountain West Conference outdoor 5,000 champ Patrick Corona.
The time would have made him the No. 7 qualifier for NCAA's.

To be fair, Grant Fisher ran 7:50 his freshman year but was unattached
The Santos effect will make the average DI runners. Maybe above average because they are good talent. Sad to see them not on the right trajectory. Lex ran 7:57 his junior year of HS. Santos did this same thing with his BAA talent. He can’t develop a runner if his life depended on it
At the end of the day Leo and Lex picked Stanford over running fast. To some it’s not a bad choice.
What you need to understand is that improvement is not always linear. If you are or even more so we're a runner you would understand this. Sometimes there is a leveling off period or regression between levels. You need to understand the Youngs are freshman adjusting to an elite academic school, most likely higher training volume and a new environment. On average the adjustment period is 2 years. I believe that is what Adam Goucher also said of I am not mistaken in Running with the Buffaloes to adjust to Mark Wetmores training

The big question is whether or not he can develop them enough to get a pro contract. I agree, these boys should be running 7:30s and 13:00 by the time they graduate, but if he can get them to 7:40 and 13:15 they might pick up a pro contract (their name and their brother will help with that) and go on to great pro careers, with a Stanford degree in their back pocket.
It seems like LRC has the collective ideas that nobody really questions and one of them is that Santos is a bad coach ..
I don't understand how he's a bad coach when his best guy has run 7:36/13:06/27:44 as a decent prospect (3:52/8:19 1500-3k) but nowhere near the guys he's beating. Same with Charles Hicks. Milo Sapinsky seems to be another one of these under the radar prospects with a 7:56 as a freshman...

If Santos continually anonymously posted on Letsrun, claiming he’s the greatest and made YouTube videos about the rise of Stanford track, while looking for every opportunity to talk about himself being the reason for the success of runners like Robinson, Hicks and Sapinsky, he would be regarded much more highly, although would also be much more disliked.

Spend a few minutes reading through Santos' bio, from being the assistant and recruiting coordinator at Harvard, his time at Iona, coaching pros and the success at Stanford. For someone to not acknowledge all the success he's had along the way is total ignorance. All coaches who have been in the game for a while have examples of talent that didn't pan out. When you compare the success he's had through his career with someone who coached for a handful of years in high school and one less than spectacular year in college and plenty of runners who faded or were chewed up and spit out, it's not remotely fair to Santos. I find it insane. Santos is a very good coach who has had a long resume that puts him at the top of his profession. It's not just bluster like someone else.

Both bro's entered in two events this weekend at Payton Jordan;
1500- Leo
both in 5k- Lex- 13:49 indoor and 13:57 outdoor after his HS record of 13:34
Leo- 13:46 @ Brian Clay
10K- Lex (29:25) I imagine he will want to chop 60+ seconds off his PB from a few weeks ago.
I'm not so sure Lex will run both 5k and 10k. He really needs a good 5k to get some mojo back. I'm sure Leo would be thrilled to get back into that range he was running last season in the 1500. I could see Leo doubling, some good names in the 5km, not sure how many heats with 83 enteries.
