Yep, this is pretty blatant corruption and fraud. There's no other way to honestly evaluate it, really. Rojo, I know you like to fence sit, but the left wingers really are the bad guys on most topics of import. They're pro-crime, pro-genital mutilation of minors, pro-Marx, etc.
This whole thing really is explainable via the Marxist worldview. These student loan borrowers are oppressed, you see. When they were 18 and faced with working their way through college, going to a CC, or some other option less than the 4 year summer camp version reserved for children of wealthy people, they squealed and shrieked with anger. They filled out their FAFSA forms as quickly as they could and took out those loans, public and/or private, with the idea it would all be worth it.
They went to college and enjoyed a hedonistic lifestyle. Partying, casual sex, lounging on campus, the meal plan, the whole deal. Then they graduated and began working some crummy entry level job for somewhere between $35-50k a year. All of a sudden, it was time to pay back the loan. Paying hundreds of dollars a month and not making much of a dent on the principal begins to weigh on them psychologically. They get bitter, angry, and resentful and when you're like this, you rationalize anything and everything.
I'm honestly not surprised. The weak, shifty, dishonest, and entitled criminality on display is exactly what drives the more traditional criminals that these people support with their politics. You can all hoot and holler all you want, you're still scumbag criminals at the end of the day destined for miserable lives. Think about it, your partner, your family, and your friends are just as nasty and awful as you are. That hole you felt and always feel, your anger, your envy, it will ALWAYS be there, no matter how much you steal. And you all deserve it.
They dipstick left wingers funded and created this medium that you used to disparage them.
“left wingers” are the creative people, the scientists, the people who move the world in better directions.
People like you are the takers, the whiners and complainers
Um, no. If you're too poor to go to college and need to pick someone's pocket to finance your degenerate lifestyle, you're a taker by definition.
Forgiving student loan debt is a bribe but tax cuts for the rich is fine lol. Boomers get so mad about debt forgiveness.
For real Biden has never cared about student debt, even the first time he didn’t want to do it. It is a popular position among young people. That is politics. Not a bribe, just classic false promises.
Only weirdos like Rojo would get spun up over something like this when there are actually important things to be worried about.
Like $2 trillion deficits when there is no COVID emergency? Like spending $150 billion a year on illegal immigrants? Like global conflicts erupting that threaten to send another generation of American soldiers into harm’s way in foreign countries (on the bright side, students would earn their debt relief the same way previous generations did rather than simply having it handed to them). Is that what you meant?
Reform is necessary, but I'm not sure stuff like this is it. On the other hand, the article says only people who have been paying for 10+ years and who took out less than $12k initially are going to be forgiven? How does someone make payments on $12k for 10 years and still not have it close to paid off? There must be a lot of people out there who are more or less financially reetarded.
Student loan forgiveness? Drop in the bucket compared to what Trump gave the billionaires with his "tax reform", Trump’s signature Tax Cuts and Jobs Act added $1.9 trillion, according to "The Hill" on 1/24/24. Trickle down for the fat cats, this is not how you lower debt, or build an economy.
Also, investing in infrastructure and education builds the economy and shores up the tax base, reducing the deficit. Ronald Reagan would call me a "tax & spend liberal." In truth, I'm a bit to the left of that!
Rojo, you have a legitmate point and question, and you are passionate about it, but I like how you present it--dialog is invited. WE the people have to discuss matters in a civil way, in pursuit of the common good.

colleges is $30,000-$100,000 a year almost everyone is "too poor" to go to college. We all know you aren't getting any scholarships running or otherwise.
The real danger is the prospect of a second term. With the bill coming due for years of fiscal irresponsibility, Biden will likely turn to the same last resort as other failed socialist regimes: government seizure of private property. In China, Cambodia, Russia, and Cuba they called it collectivization. In Venezuela they simply stole it. In Greece and Spain they called it Austerity measures. In the US, they refer to it as a “wealth tax”. And as in all those experiments, there will likely be some short term gains followed by decades of suffering.
It's just Americans brainwashed to believe trickle down and that only the rich and corporations should benefit from assistance. Time after tike we have seen bailouts of greedy reckless banks, other large corporations that to this day are not competitive, and of course all the awesome help the rich get when they don't ever need it. Now take citizen Bob who is swimming in student debt he'll never be able to repay regardless of having landed a good job. He'll never a afford a house and won't have disposable income that will circle back into the broader economy. God forbid people like this get help and the crazies start to cry hard about it.

Correct, drop in the bucket and arguably goes much further in boosting future economic output.
