Here in Sweden we are happy we at last have a real contender to match Jakob Ingebrigtsen. If at 5000m or 10000m and they both feels equal strong going into the last lap Andreas will " eat Norwegian balls " , haha! 🇸🇪🧙🏼♂️🇸🇪

All these results are sooo well deserved from a dedicated runner, who clearly has been prone to many injuries during his career:
- Stress fracture Fibula and Tibia (2015)
- Stress fracture Naviculare (2016 - this was a serious one. He was forced to operate it)
- Stress reaction Femur
- Ruptured Soleus and Hamstring + Meniscus tear
- Stress fracture Ilium and Sacrum
Most of these injuries came in particular during the period, when Almgren trained for 800 & 1500m (when he was doing very intense middle distance training a.ka. traditional "lactic acid" intervals).
After this period, Almgren wanted to test a new method (late 2018, early 2019)...And we all know type of training he focused on after that, right? The short answer is the training method that goes by the name "double threshold" (tuesday 5x6min in the morning, 10x3min in the evening, thursday 5x6min morning, 25x400m/30sec rest or 10x1000m in the evening, Hills on saturday 20x300m and a long run on sunday, mostly 25km@3.45min/km pace average. The rest is "easy runs", which for Almgren is around 3.50min/km.)
One thing to consider here, which in my opinion is very important to remember, is that he has a backround from middle distance, with a high max capacity speed and a high lactic acid tolerance (he said that during some of his hardest sessions, the lactic meter showed "error" which menas that it was >25mmol/lit ! ). That means that his ceiling is very high and has therefore a great opportunity to increase his threshold speed.
A high ceiling + high threshold & a high utilization makes him a world class distance runner!
A big + is also that the double treshold system has made him less prone to injuries. Consistency is also a big key to success. The future looks very good for Almgren!
Another thing to point out before Almgren broke the Swedish 10k road record in Valencia. He did not taper for that one! 8 days prior to the race, Andreas did a session: 10x1000m/1min (1-5 reps @2.44 pace, 6-10 @2.42.7) and average 120miles that week.
During race week he "only" ran 92miles, but did a double treshold day 3 days before, and a semi-long run 20km@3.51min/km average (a "post exam run" to fresh his mind xD)
After Valencia, Almgren headed to high altitude training at Sierra Nevada
