If I HAD to guess, I'd say he was at least pushing into the grey zone with performance enhancers back in his prime. But your guess is as good as mine.
As for his decline in performance, dude's getting old. He may be sick of it. Everything may hurt. Achilles surgery is tough on anyone. Being at that level, for so long, must be hell. I never sniffed the rarified air that Rupp has, but when I was finished with a good, hard season, I was so tired and achey and ready to quit. Now do that for 20+ years.

As I recall, the file said Rupp was taking testosterone. It was Salazar who said that Rupp was taking Testoboost rather than testosterone and that the doctor who wrote "testosterone" mistakenly.

Rupp's 2:14 could probably be explained in retrospect by examining his prepartion. He will probably look back and see that he had some struggles. it not just times and mileage, but a fatigue factor. Before Chris Derrick retired, he mentioned that his workout times and mileage looked fine, but he was having more trouble hitting these goals. At some level, he knew the strain had become too much.

You don't risk a 4 year ban for a forbidden method if you didn't hide something like Epo in those injections.
