Please re-read. I specifically said she was an unlikely HS champ to be win the college championship too. Because at the time, she hadn't won an olympic medal yet and had gone through and overcome significant mental health issues/injuries to get to that point.

They are all news companies or some randos website and as such they provide unofficial information with zero guarantee that any of this information is valid, accurate or relevant.

You want to be a professional and make money from running? then USATF requires you post your training publically for the month prior to the race and you are eligible for the prize money.
Look how much discussion and buzz Mantz's training produced- its good for the sport. It gives something for the fans to follow.
Don't want to post your training? That is fine you are welcome to be an amateur, not eligible for any prize money.
Not sure how you can argue against this as a fan. We would all love to follow these athletes up to the race. Great conversation and allows us to actually pick favorites. And of course, there is always the option not to.

Sure if Molly races Friday and get hurts during the race it is okay if we don't know until the last minute.
But in this case it was allegedly a surgery a month ago, that no one knows excpet a message board thread. That isn't how real sports are.

Runners, tennis players and golfers are independent contractors. They have no obligation to disclose anything to anyone.
NBA, NFL and MLB athletes are team employees. They are obligated to disclose injuries to their teams, and their teams are obligated to disclose to the league. It’s apples and oranges.

I don't think anyone should have to disclose their training leading up to a race. Part of your edge is you knowing what you can and can't do, and your opponents having to guess.

And that is, in large part, because there is a lot of betting on games in those team sports and disclosure levels the field for bettors by eliminating inside information.
I still don't understand. Many of us followed her through high school. To say that the national champ was unlikely to win in college makes no sense.
It's the Footlocker curse on the women's side. Few can remain at the same level or better with the physical changes of late teen years. If they regain their speed, it's more likely to happen in their mid-to-late 20s.
I think it is a bit silly to praise her for her "openness" if she has been hiding a surgery for a month the week before a big race.
I like Molly, I want her to succeed, she has proven she can be world class and get american medals. However some of her behavior is not professional and is bad for the sport.
I remember her post about slowly returning back to weight-bearing activity from a stress reaction and then completing a trail race later that week. I think that’s what you are talking about. That was strange.
I know nothing about pro contracts, but the idea of an appearance “fee” (should actually be a bonus) just for starting the OT sounds kind of odd. Some athletes who qualified for the OTs decided to withdraw because of poorly-timed injuries. Does that mean they don’t have these bonuses in their contracts? Otherwise you’d see them lining up, limping a few miles then dropping just to get that bonus. I guess maybe some athletes don’t have that bonus, but you’d think there should be some continuity between contracts when it comes to this stuff.
If the rumor is true, I would tend to believe Molly is racing with the full intention of vying for the team. Maybe she isn’t 100%, and maybe she will have to drop part of the way through, but the mindset now is to give it a shot. Why not? I just don’t think this is for a bonus check.
