This is the dilemma that every graduating collegiate has when going pro. The college coach will always see the college as their employer. Same situation with Mike Smith.
I know im alone on this one, but i just dont see how coaching at U of O somehow makes it impossible to coach a few middle distance runners as well? Slightly different work outs/needs. It's running for god's sake. It's 10X more time consuming to be a college football or basketball coach.
I was in a situation of coaching a guy who is potentially world-class, the past 2 years (coached him in HS). After College (ncaa medalist indoors and multi-time finalist) he was hurt, then covid (so 2 outdoor seasons gone). Then he went to a 800m group for a year (but didn't like the fit). Took him on again and had him change events. First year went mostly fine, but didn't see him for big stretches of time (away at altitude and racing). 2nd year he was supposed to join a shoe-sponsored group and train with a high profile buddy of his - but that didn't work out and the year consequently was mostly a disaster - again away training and racing. Now is with a different coach and another Pro-type group. It is NOT easy coaching (even with modern communication) people who are away and/or training often solo at THIS level. So Jerry not being with these people a lot, is NOT a good situation.
Guaranteed that Knight doesn't go there without Ahmed also being there. But it is NOT an ideal situation overall, but there are not a lot of alternatives in America right now. ON only want to take on people that fit into a certain scheme, Smith has other obligations that benefit those who went to NAU anyway (with a couple of exceptions).
And they’ll ultimately fail at Oregon too. Then what?
Early track results this season were not particularly promising. Many of the top recruits over the past couple years didn't run or didn't run well. Next up is UW Jan. 13. You need to run qualifying times to make indoor nationals. How many will Jerry even let run? 14 flat for Connor Burns, who ran 13:34 in high school, and he was coming off of an underwhelming frosh xc campaign.
Oregon Results MEN Mile 2. Elliott Cook – 3:55.50 12. Alex Slenning – 4:04.13 (PB) 14. Tomas Palfrey – 4:04.42 3,000 Meters 33. Aiden Smith – 8:05.19 39. Sergio Del Barrio – 8:07.48 (PB) 41. Benjamin Balazs – 8:07.90 45. Archie Noakes – 8:08.92 5,000 Meters 76. Josh Edwards – 13:55.56 101. Connor Burns – 14:00.43 161. Izaiah Steury – 14:23.13 WOMEN Mile 4. Klaudia Kazimierska – 4:37.41 9. Ella Nelson – 4:40.60 (PB) 14. Samantha McDonnell – 4:45.05 3,000 Meters 5. Maddy Elmore – 8:50.43 (school record) 21. Mia Barnett/unattached – 9:12.26 (PB)
Still funny how BTC had a doping positive while NOP never had one
When Centro joined BTC I lost respect for Jerry!
Why didn't Jerry just let BTC stay in Portland and Nike find a new coach for them. Jerry is a selfish pig. He has ruined so many lives with his selfishness.
It's pretty obvious. Nike spent way too much money on the new Hayward field with no return on investment due to the poor attendance at the meets hosted there. Best way to get interest back into Hayward would be to get Nike's darlings at BTC to train full-time in the new facilities they had created. Unfortunately I don't think Nike's big bet is paying off.

5k is especially bad. A 13:37 HS 5000m runner and a 60s place XC finisher as a freshman should not be in the 14 minute range
Ever since Nike replaced Mark Parker with the Wall Street CEO Nike stopped caring about running. The bottom line is all that matters now.
It's no surprise that they pushed Jerry & Shalane's contracts off onto U of O and are letting their premier pro team disintegrate. If it doesnt lead directly to sales, its gone.
A collegiate running team leads directly to sales?¿
Shelby is guilty, has been guilty, and will always be guilty…Once a doper, always a doper!!!
Don’t trust crooked foreign governing bodies like WADA/AIU. They’re self-interested (in European medals) - not interested in the truth.
Shelby 100% did not use nandrolone. And no I’m not trolling. It may take 20 years for people to know and fully understand that Shelby was clean, while Galen and Alberto broke rules.
I think WADA should be extinguished - the only problem is that bureaucratic, power hungry, people like Christiane Ayotte will always take the hasty lead in “doing the right thing,” regardless of who runs an anti-doping organization.
A brain dead comment if ever there was.
The evidence is very clear - there was an excess of nandrolone in her system and she cannot provide any credible reason as to how it got there.
In short, there is ZERO evidence she did not dope. She is a cheat and a liar, and it is good for the sport that this liar is banned. But, it is terrible that a legion of =fools continue to line up to defend this cheat.

I deleted the accusations to make this only the facts.
I agree, no need to line up and defend her. No need to name call. The rules don't require suspension to prove intent or to figure out how she doped or provide evidence beyond just a blood or urine sample.

Nike didn’t put up a dime for the renovation. There was this guy, I believe his last name is Knight, he paid for it.
Seccafien was a DNF at the Cadbury half marathon in Hobart Australia this weekend wearing a regular Nike kit (not BTC as she raced in during the summer/fall).

The new Hayward isn't meant to "return on investment" it is a gift from a man who loves the school he attended. It is owned by the university and has nothing to do with the company's bottom line.
Jonathan Gault had a lengthy chat with the American record holder last week about her decision to leave the BTC. Frerichs reveals she's already in a really great place training wise. Our Q&A is now up on the front page:https:...
