Well put. Again I don't see this result as being materially better than Tuohy's Soundrunning result which she ran postpeak last year. I am not saying Valby will not get better, but what happens when Tuohy starts doubling, adding miles and altitude training if Valby cannot? Then again, who knows. Valby did run a massive pr., BU or not.
You got to remember, after Parker Valby broke her foot, she came out and ran 15:20 from just pool running. So she said that in the post-race interviews, indicative of her being as shocked about it as everyone else. But then people came on her and said “no way”, “she’s making that up”, etc. etc.
My point was that I think she very well could have bern conveying genuine surprise, whereas, a few here interpreted it as her being deceitful.
“interpreted it as being deceitful”, or as you did OP, that she is being disingenuous and fake to downplay her capabilities.
I haven’t watched the post-race interview yet. But in the recent Chavez interview, she tries to make it clear that she trains extremely hard.
some of the questions are just lame though. It's okay to skip interviews. Like, "please give us your secrets." If she just says, "I listen to my coaches," that's fine.

It's all her interviews. I have never seen or heard a runner (male or female) in post race interviews consistently downplay their effort and work as much as she does. It comes across like "look how fast I am without working at it" kind of thing which gets old.

I found it odd she had no idea when in the race she made the move to the lead

Tuohy isn’t doubling already? If not, why not..? Agree altitude will be a big advantage if Tuohy is a responder (but, then, Valby also has yet to try too, so they’re arguably equal in that respect).
Sorry but anybody that thinks Tuohy has a higher ceiling than the girl that just ran 14:56 off 3 days of running a week is delusional. Whether she reaches that ceiling remains to be seen
In my experience most of the time women who can't seem to run high mileage without injury and need to cross train that much to stay healthy usually need to adjust their fuelling because they are underfuelling whether it is due to disordered eating or inadvertantly not realizing how much they need to eat to support high level training. This tends to be especially the case with bone injuries (like breaking your foot repeatedly as Valby has). If she can make some adjustments to that side, who knows where her ceiling is.
This is my concern with the amount of high intensity training she puts in. But it sounds like she has a trainer, that can maybe help her stay ahead of it now.

I have thought this too. She is very likeable, but the "I don't know what I'm doing" bit doesn't seem as genuine as it once did. She is a great runner who works hard. She should own it and not feel compelled to play the dumb blonde.
It doesn't seem genuine at all. The "I barely run and dont know what I am doing everything is effortless, I'm so great" schtick is not believable. 14:56 is not effortless for anyone unless you are doping.

Ah, no one breaks 15 mins, especially as a female, without working hard. I don’t see that she’s trying that at all. She just comes across as a bit overwhelmed. Plenty of people work as hard as she does without the same level of success.. and she works very, very hard indeed. How is she hiding that? She admits that she just does her hard work on an arc trainer or whatever, and puts in far more many hours than those who mainly run.. just, her body doesn’t hold up to running and so she’s forced to cross train. You have to admit she’s incredibly talented and it must be a bit overwhelming to be in receipt of so much media attention suddenly. It’s exciting and she probably needs to get used to it a bit.
I strongly think she does not yet have a good handle on what her fitness is, in terms of race times/splits. But she does seem to know her body enough to run to its fitness level, before the battery runs out. She was challenged, in that respect, at OSU last year, when she got so cold that eventually she could not feel her feet.

Nonetheless, she definitely appears stronger and fitter than this time last year.

Sorry for the downvote, I meant to upvote you.
She said it’s surreal. There is now more demands of her attention, but she still needs to put in the taxing work.

I listened to that. But her other interviews, especially this one, are pretty different. Especially post race. For example, she made it seem like she had no idea she was kicking at 4k, thought it was maybe 5k, and the announcer had to correct her, but yet it was so easy.
"IF KATELYN TUOHY WASN'T SICK, HAD PHNEUMONIA, BROKE HER FOOT, GOT HYPOTHERMIA, SWALLLOWED A DOG, AND DRANK A GALLON OF ROUND-UP, SHE'D HAVE WON THE RACE IN 9:58!!!"

How many indoor races has she run? 4 or 5
I think it would still be a bit of a blur to her, and the laps start clicking off and she is not counting them, nor is there need to. Like when she is hammering on the arc trainer, she cranks up the music, and it becomes a blur, and then she is done. Out there, she’s probably trying to tune into her coach’s call-out.
