Aren’t you the journalist here? Go be a journalist then. Just asking random questions on a message board is lazy.
I've seen this sentiment a lot, and I don't understand it. If you had a question about quantum entanglement, and you know of a message board filled with self proclaimed experts on the subject, would you not ask the board or would you tell a reporter to go find out somewhere else and tell me?
Lot's of people come to this board to ask questions of knowledgeable people. Yet I have seen this strange reasoning that because he runs the board he is not allowed to ask questions here like everyone else is. No, he must ignore his own board and find the answer somewhere else.
That is not a random question and this is not a random board. The question, "What Ethiopians have been caught that people in the community think qualify as 'prominent'", seems like a reasonable question for the board. He is asking for board input, which is one of the primary reasons you have a board like this. I would also suspect there is someone on this board who knows about the particulars of Ethiopian drug testing. So why not start here? I would. Why is do people get so upset he uses this board as one of his sources of information?
You’ve cherry picked your information to support your bias. “1) Does anyone have a list of Ethiopian drug busts? Have there been any of prominence? 2) Does WADA publish a list of drug tests by country?” is very different than asking simply an opinion on prominence.
What you are letting him get away with is being lazy. Having a quantum entanglement expert ask a board of “experts” (absolutely not the case at LRC-wannabes and ill informed people that state false information as fact is what makes up the majority of this board) to do the legwork and supply him with studies or articles about a quantum entanglement question that he can find out with a reasonably simple search is not appropriate either.
1) Does anyone have a list of Ethiopian drug busts?
Have there been any of prominence? Think of all the prominent Kenyan busts. And it makes no sense to me that they wouldn't also cheat in Ethiopia - which is poorer than Kenya.
2) Does WADA publish a list of drug tests by country? I'd like to see how many tests were carried out in Ethiopia in 2022 versus Kenya in 2022. It's my understanding there is a lab in Kenya that can do to the tests but not in Ethiopia and some of the tests are very time sensitive and if you do it in Ethiopia you then have to fly them to Kenya which obviously is quite expensive.

This is just standard from a pampered little turd born with a silver spoon in his ass
The fact remains that blood testing without advance notice has been common in Europe and the United States for long before it was used in Kenya and over 300 Kenyans have tested positive or been banned for other reasons in the past seven years alone, and very few Western European or American distance runners--many of whom are not signed by the biggest talent managers and with no access to the Healing Hans of the world. It is likely that the best of the Kenyans and Ethiopians have been protected from drug busts by those agents and doctors.
Kenya and Ethiopia have deeper talent pools than the rest of the world combined. That's just fact. It started in the 60s when very few were competing and only slumped with the Olympic boycotts. Kenyans are now tested far more than Europeans and Americans yet the dominance hasn't ebbed.
Kenya's won 1 out of the last 9 Olympic medals in each of the 1500m, the 5000m, and the 10000m. That covers London 2012, Rio 2016, and Tokyo 2020 (2021). That sounds to me like waning dominance but I'll give you the quality depth spread around through the road and track circuits.
This is the complete list of men's medalists in athletics at the Summer Olympics. It does not include the medalists from the Athletics at the 1906 Intercalated Games – these are no longer regarded as an official part of the O...
At World's, one out of the last 9 medalists is Kenyan in the 1500m (11 previous medalists, plus two from Kenyan ex-pats), two out of 9 in the 5000m (14 previous medals in the 5 at World's, plus 5 from Kenyan ex-pats), and three out of 9 in the 10000m (16 previous medals in the 10 at World's), only one gold in any of those events in 2019, 2021, or 2023. When we go back to 2017 and prior, in the 1500m, we get a bunch of medalists, including golds, from two banned athletes, Asbel Kiprop and Elijah Manangoi. So, no, we're not seeing Kenyan dominance on the track in the distances. Ethiopia has no 1500m medals (not surprising, as they have only one 1500m men's medal in the history of the World Champs, in 2009), and just two 5000m medals (11 prior medals in the World Champs) and two 10000m medals (18 medals prior to 2019) from 2019, 2021, and 2023. So, Ethiopia's and Kenya's dominance in the distances on the track at world's have both lessened substantially in comparison to the period 1991-2017.
Why should it be expensive? Isn’t it a very short very frequent flight with lots of practice and infrastructure for transferring medical/bio-materials? I’ve been told that Nairobi is the medical capital of the wider region.
I’ve made this point here before….but didn’t get decent engagement. It is a puzzle for me that there is a coincidence between Kenya’s PED busts and their waning dominance. Worse than medals is how frequently they send small teams or athletes who can’t get out of the heats.
Ninth fastest all time and people argue it's not significant. Give me a break. In the elite running community she's well known, but in the greater picture, obviously not a household name. And this does proports to be a running site, right?
Yeah the dismissal is odd. Outside of Gidey, Tsegay, Assefa, Berisu, Gebreslase and Welteji there really arent many in-their-prime Ethiopians who would be bigger busts. This is a Rhonex level athlete.
Rhonex Kipruto is the 10km WR holder and 2019 bronze medalist in the 10,000m. What has Gemechu done that is comparable?

9th all time in the marathon. Second in a WMM. 4th at Worlds 5k. Both have a top finish of 6th at World XC.
Rhonex’s 10K WR time is an outlier in his career. He is very good but not the best in any event.
Kipruto has 3 of the top ten 10km times in history including the standing WR. He is 3rd all-time in the half marathon and took bronze behind Cheptegei and Kejelcha in Doha as was already mentioned. 99% of letsrun posters knew who he was before he got popped. In what universe is he comparable to the 9th fastest marathoner whose greatest achievement is getting 2nd to Rosemary Wanjiru?
More men are famous and Rhonex won World Junior Gold. He has the road 10K record, which also gave some notoriety. But as far as where he stood in the sport, he is in the same category as Gemechu. His HM time was beaten by both Gebrhiwet and Kejelcha this year. He failed in Tokyo and then couldn’t make the Kenyan team in ‘22. Hes good but being a guy who is typically in 26:50/58:00 shape with a lack of a kick puts him behind a large group of runners. If he got to the marathon and could run a top 10 all-time mark he would recapture more of his relevance.

How have I been learning from a shameless liar, you geriatric turd?
Because you are completely full of sh*t yourself.
Oh really, cheerful old man? So you agree with Coevett's manipulation of information? You are not so different from a former American president you claim to despise.
What a stupid comment from the old man who also prefers to change facts again and again if they are not to his liking.
You think that because you don't recognise facts in your fantasy world.
Someone mentions correctly that Coevett since years changes facts (like someone in this thread did) if the lie better fits to his view.
You gave a completely nonsensical reply (as so often). I commented this and pointed on the PURE FACT that you often also lie (or you are really too stupid to see that 2+2 equals not 5).

Coevett posts about the contribution Africans have made to doping in the sport. That isn't misinformation. You haven't read the subject of the thread, or seen the lists of violations that are posted on a monthly or even weekly basis.

I love it when you babies start throwing your toys out of the cot.

Coevett manipulated the times. That is misinformation. You haven't read the post where this is explained.
