re the Nordic ham curls, to me they feel like a knee version of eccentric heel drops, which help with calf strains. Just need to have good knee pads and some sort of supports so that you reduce the force required, and can drop down at a controlled pace. I used 2 short poles/2x2s to extend the reach of my arms.
