I was in high school when John Nuttall arrived at Iowa State. I still fondly remember watching him run at the Drake Relays. My brother knew him a little bit and he seemed to be a very descent person. I have little knowledge of him after he left Iowa State but I did see his Commonwealth Games bronze medal performance. Had he not been injured when he arrived at ISU I have no doubt he would have been a two time NCAA cross country champion. He was really good on grass and mud. Thanks for the memories.

You could buy his autobiography, '14 minutes' But to sum up: He fainted, died for 14 minutes, came back from the dead and even went to Medjugorje in Bosnia to visit the Virgin Mary and ask her to stop getting injured, but hey, let me take Prozac as well!
Same thing happened to my running cousin at a similar age while out on a training run. He didn’t drink or smoke and had no heart disease in the family. Bad things just happen sometimes.
Dr Roger Hackney (former steeplechaser) has been studying the high incidence of heart problems in distance runners for years. (Way before COVID). Also been on a sort of crusade for runners especially those who trained at a world class level get checked. Strokes seem more common than heart attacks in this group but both seem to evaluated
