You said that you may not qualify. That sentence is written as if it is more likely that you would qualify. Are now saying that you recognize that you have no chance? I rhought you were indicating otherwise.

I’ve only seriously run the 10k on a couple of occasions. I may not qualify to regionals, but the probability in my mind is not 0%. Happy?
100 miles per week is not a lot for the marathon. If you asked everyone who has run sub 2:18:00 this cycle, I would bet 95% were running over 100 miles every week for at least a month, a majority probably above 110 or 115 for a couple weeks. Especially if you're 'only' 14:19/29:40. If you were carrying a ton of speed like 13:50 and 28:50 then you could maybe get by with only 100 mile weeks, but you're going against the grain and will need the extra mileage to get the job done.
1 -- you set out to do college sports, finish the job. you admit you have unaccomplished college goals left, chase them. you do not want regrets or what ifs later. tie a bow on this phase before the next.
2--my understanding is marathon runners hit their prime late 20s early 30s. as such the brighter approach is pursue both but in their own time frame.
3--you're a acting on contradictory impulses. are you healthy and in your prime or breaking down and have no time to waste? i would only assume the clock is running if you have some chronic issue.
your chronology and conflicts are confused. people mention "2:18." you need the standard by december 5 and not by the february trials or you don't even get in. in other words, you have to run a 2:18 marathon in less than 2 months. just to get to the point where you have a TF schedule conflict.
that points to your real, or at least initial, conflict would be right now. the "two masters" issue right now is actually trials qualifying vs. XC. you don't get the right number by december and the conflict with TF evaporates. there is only an indoors conflict if you make the standard and have trials to chase. there is no real conflict with outdoors because by the time that starts you're either on your way to paris or not.
It’s not like I’m going to qualify to nationals. Heck, I may not qualify to regionals even. I’m a high mileage guy and think I’m well suited for the marathon. I also don’t like just assuming I’ll have opportunities 4-8 years from now. I’m in shape to qualify now. I might not even be active in the sport 4-8 years from now.
There are two opposing schools of thought here. There's the camaraderie of being on a team and accomplishing something. Then, there's the glory and sense of fulfillment of individual accomplishments.
I'm not judging at all, but it sounds like you're more in the latter category.
Ask yourself, "Ten years from now, which will I look back on with more sense of accomplishment?" Looking back on XC/Track (win or lose) or looking back at your OTQ attempt (win or lose).
I will not advise you, but I will share my personal experience. I did not run in high school or college so I can't comment on the joy of winning as a team, but as a masters runner, I ran my first USATF Masters Championships in 2004. I was pretty insecure. I had never raced at that level before and I was racing the AR holder in my heat. I qualified for the final in my event. I remember that feeling twenty years later. It was "I deserve to be here." I didn't podium in the final, but the feeling of accomplishment of just getting there remains one of my best memories as a runner. Maybe you would get even more sense of accomplishment by running with your team. I don't know.
I would urge you to make a choice... you can't train for both events and be your best at both.
As a guy who has lost his last two years of college to injury (undiagnosed haglunds, getting surgery in 8 days) there’s very little I wouldn’t give to get those years with my friends and team back. OTQ will always be there, but you only get to be a college athlete once. Just my two cents.

The OP was a straight up troll job. His follow up posts get more and more unrealistic.
To keep a good troll going, you have to keep it believable.

I’d say 50+ posts is a pretty good troll job.
I don’t understand the comments about me being slower than the top women. It’s not like Im going around bragging about being fast. Im simply describing a difficult decision Im wrestling with.
The marathon to me seems like my best event, and I don’t think I’ll have the setup and motivation to keep training at this level or better in the years to come. Im someone that thrives off training with others. With work stresses, no training partners, and other interests, I doubt I can be as fit as I am now 4 years from now.
I appreciate all the responses. It has helped me think through the situation.
Just run with the XC team (you're already doing that) maybe do a little marathon specific work if you can (increase your long run) and run CIM without telling anyone (under a fake name).

Oh yeah nothing at all wrong with trying to get into the Olympic trials under a fake name. I'm sure everything will go just fine.

If you can't run 2:11:30, why bother with the Trials?
He provided persective for you. It didn't sink in. Do what you want. He was showing you that your tines really only matter to you. You aren't national class and won't earn a living from running. Those things are facts, not insults.
