Thought this was silly. Tracksmith launches a singlet only available to Boston Qualifiers, and people are losing their minds in the comments section on social media (Instagram) about how it's "elitist" (among other things):
- The people who are most upset about this are massive whiners who expect everyone to cater to them at all times
- The post was written in the most inflammatory way possible, and it might be the case that Tracksmith was hoping to get this kind of reaction as a way of getting attention
In other news, in the past month I’ve spent several hundred dollars on Tracksmith gear: NDO jacket ($300), NDO tights ($200), and some long sleeve Harriers (3 x $80).
I originally thought Boston should expand the field size because we are finally coming out of Covid and that is reflected in more people race and traveling. But dang these people are whiners. Now, I’m glad the B.A.A. didn’t. The comments on the Boston marathon’s instagram today were toxic and whiny.
Now tracksmith released a stupid ass singlet and the same crowd is crying again. If you don’t like it then don’t buy tracksmith stuff.

More accurately, 11,0000 qualifiers were shut out due to non-qualifying charity runners. All qualifiers could have run if they dumped the charities. 39,000 people ran in 1996.
True but I rather have charity runners. At least they're doing something good. A bunch of hobbjoggers barely breaking 3 hours isn't much to lose sleep over anyway. And the cutoff and the mystery of it is what makes the race interesting.
While I get most of the people in the comments are mostly "running" influences who are probably just trying to get attention and might not really believe what they're saying. The craziest thing to me is the fact that they think the fact that they require you to run (at the absolute fastest) a 3:00 marathon to buy their crappy shirt, but not the fact that the cheapest shirts on their website are like $75. That's totally not elitist at all.
It just shows you how narcissistic, privileged, and sheltered all these influencers are. They are the scourge of the Earth to be brutally honest.
There are so many better places to race besides Boston.

I want to see the cutoff as 2:59 across the board. No matter the age or sex
If Tracksmith did this every year I would get a BQ just to get this singlet and parade myself around in it. Just because I'm petty and can't stand the majority (I didn't say all) of slow people.
I was technically "qualified" to go to Harvard Medical School, but i wasn't accepted and i didn't go. I have no desire to buy and wear a Harvard teeshirt. Why are people so upset that a Boston marathon item is just for Boston marathon runners?
What they are missing is the fact that big races like this are incredibly exclusionary. Going to Boston is cost-prohibitive for many people, imagine the waves of Kenyans, Ethiopians, ugandans etc. that would have no problem getting under the BQ cutoff lol.
