I just moved to a new city and looked around some running groups for some people to train with. All of the weekend runs that I’ve seen are all start between 7:00-8:00 AM. Now that summer weather is behind us, what is the point of this early departure? I slept in, had a coffee and breakfast, and got in a great long run beginning at 10:30 AM. Still had the whole day ahead of me.
It's a wonderful time to run. The air is fresher. Humidity is lower, streets are quieter with less traffic. By the time you are finished, you have practically the entire day to do your other stuff. You should try it and stop being lazy. Cos when you lie in bed and go for a run at 10:30 by the time you are finished, half of the day has gone.
In the Phoenix area it makes a little more sense with the heat. A lot of groups start at 4am in the summer. I get that. But the weird thing is they still meet up at 5am in the winter. It's dark until 7am, sun doesn't come up until 7:30 or 8:00 and they're meeting at 5am. Drives me nuts. So I run alone.

That is kind of funny about the winter. Especially in Arizona where it is pretty cold in the early AMs. But then again, it is still pretty cold at 7AM. Arizona winters are made for afternoon runs.
Because you got to get it early. Don’t waste the day. 10 is insane to start a workout. Are you all mad?
Why do you got to get it early. In the summer I did a lot of my long runs around 6 or 7 PM. During the rest of the year I'd usually get out around noon. I always got to it. But I also got to more sleep.

You need to sleep until 12? What? You must be up late. Too late. Are you even a serious runner? What are you going to tell me next? You drink alcohol?
Because people have children. Get married and try doing your runs in the middle of the day while your wife is left alone with kids. You’ll be divorced quicker than a Kardashian.

How can you have the whole day ahead of you when you went for your run at practically midday? Anyhow you do you and others will do them.
Me, I go for my run between 7-8AM. It's wonderful.
Why do people even need the whole day ahead of them after running? I like to run after lunch when weather allows. It's part of my day. I look forward to it. Not sure why i need to knock it out quickly in the early morning to open my day up ahead of me. Hell, running is often the highlight of my day....
People act like they have hours of chores etc. I don't understand either op. Unless you are working or dealing with little kids....

79 with 75 dewpoint in full sun at 8am is way different than at 6:30 with no sun.
I always get triggered by stupidity. All these incels/Karens crying about how people are different and whining about how people don't do things (that don't concern them) the same way as everyone else is triggering. I just wish more people would get triggered by stupidity.
OP: Why do people start weekend long runs so early in the morning?
You: "Why do you care if people are different you stupid incel!!!???"
I find mid-afternoon to be the perfect time apart from the dog days of summer. 3-4pm start, lunch having fully digested and the brain having hit the afternoon slump. In my experience it’s the most efficient use of that time of day.
I get knocking out early if you have work or other obligations, but early morning is (at least in my experience) quite a bit more conducive to strong mental exertion than to physical exertion.
