Ingebrigtsen will run the mile. No way he’s chasing the WR in 90 degree heat with jet lag in an event he isn’t qualified to run (no Diamond League points).
The forecast will change in the next 6 days, but right now I’m seeing 79 degrees F with a dew point of 53 at 1:17 p.m. on Sunday. Those aren’t temps that preclude a WR in a 7.5> minute race.
All three of JI's record attempts this year have been carefully planned, well paced time trials. Unless the DL final has rabbits and/or pacing lights, JI won't have the benefit of plan or pace, and knows that he will be all the work himself in any record attempt. I don't see that happening.
3k is scheduled for Sunday 1:17 PST. Not optimal for WR attempt as it will be in the 80’s F full sun.
Will still be a great race and fast but no way conducive conditions for WR attempt.
The women are still running a 5k…Honestly not sure if this had anything to do with Jakob but with pretty low humidity the conditions might be more manageable than we’d think. 80 degrees/40% humidity shouldn’t be a problem for these guys.
Doesn't look to be optimal conditions for any record, but the 3k is at least affected less than the 5k. I guess that's the reason - if Jakob is in record shape why would he not go for the mile?
3000m is his ideal distance. Has a real shot at the WR.
His 7:54.10 two mile converts to 7:18.98 3000 using the standard 1.08 conversion factor.

The DL Final always has pacers. I don’t see why they wouldn’t allow wavelight as well.
Do want to note the Ethiopian journo who is quite close to the athletes, Aman Ahmed, seems disheartened by the change. Seems like it is certainly not coming from the Ethiopian contingent. Aregawi/Barega are Nike athletes who would seem to be hurt by the move, Kejelcha/Gebrhiwet are adidas, Haile Bekele is On. So maybe it’s for TV? Could it be for Girma/Jakob (both Nike) to hunt the record? I’m starting to think maybe that’s it and El Bakkali/Girma will avoid a showdown.

Most likely had to do with people being tired and not wanting to run another 5k. Some won’t be traveling NA and have shut their season down.
I do think the race will be fast, conditions not conducive for a WR attempt in the 3k which includes finding pacers that are available and consistent enough. JI (my guess) will be running the mile and collecting a big appearance fee. Maybe the mile will be hyped as a WR attempt and easier to get good pacers.

I like your enthusiasm and the scenario you present has merit… just not mid September in North America after a very long season. It’s too much to ask or expect from all the athletes named.
Nevertheless, the 3k will be a good race and fast. Perhaps Monaco 2024 is where such an WR attempt will be made. It could be organized properly, appearance fees in place well in advance with athletes having fresher legs.

If I recall correctly, the temperature was in the mid 80s when Jakob ran 7:54.10 in Paris on June 10th. So, I believe his potential is even greater than that. In ideal conditions, I think he could go 7:52 which only means a faster 3k too. Maybe 7:17-18.
Plus, the fact that he always leaves enough in the tank to run the last lap in 55 seconds or faster makes me think there's a chunk he could've shaved off these off-distance records. Maybe they were paced to perfection idk.
I guess if anyone deserved a wildcard entry it would be Jakob, but it would be kind of cheap to let him win the Diamond League title without running a single regular season race.
Am I misremembering, or does the DL Final just count for double points toward the running total? If that’s the case then it’s impossible for Jakob to win the DL title for 3k/5k. Might make the DL title race fairly anticlimactic, but also makes Jakob’s entry seem like a non issue.
He’s probably just racing for the win after the loss at worlds. I don’t see a WR happening Eugene is expected to be 90 degrees highest on both days
The races are well before the heat of the day and it will be around 80 tops with low humidity for the 3k. Mile 84, no humidity is perfect. That’s nothing to these guys.

If he breaks the WR in the 1500m or the 3k @ Eugene, I guarantee Nike will give him an open check to write whatever contract he wants. Hell, I would bet he will become the richest track and field athlete outside of Bolt if he breaks the WR at Eugene. It has to be at Eugene...the upper management from Nike will be there. Phil Knight will be there.
