It´s always fun to break a record. This one qualifies as a world record and not as a world´s best. I know I was able to break this one, but I had some kind of virus ten days ago and I didn´t really know how I would be feeling today. However, I felt really good and ran a good race. To be honest this record wasn´t a difficult one for me. Sure, when you have to do it alone, it´s really tough, but I got great help from the pacemakers. Actually, they were able to help me more than I expected.
What a beast. The LRC crew had a nice debate on the post-race show about his 5000 WR prospects. Do you think he'd get it if he tried right now?
I would argue this shows he might of lost some confidence. He laughed at rojos question about pacers a month ago. Said he was the pacer. Now he admits they helped
jacob mf will not break the 5 record now or in the future.

He can take the 5 any day he wants. He just did 5x 56sec laps ffs. He can do 12x 60s laps with ease, his threshold is absurdly high. He will take the 5k under 12.30 one day. We are lucky to be alive to watch him, he is the Messi of track and field, and he is clean.
The 5K WR is comparatively weak by now - there are 6-8 guys that should be able to take it down a notch if the weather conditions are right, pacing done right and at least two of them feel confident enough to push each other all the way once the windbreakers step off.
If someone puts up the right prize money and those conditions happen...
You do know his 2 mile WR is superior to the 3k record, right?
No, 18 meters is about 3 seconds at that pace, so about 7:21 at best. Good, but not that good.
Watch the agonized hate spew on the hate-vote machine! Am I wrong? No. The haters know they are wrong, and in agony about it. I merely bring the bad news. I burst the bubble.
Just face it, people. Jakob can't break 3:26. He can't break 7:20. He can't break 12:35. Ever. Or he would be trying to right now. Even he knows it's out of reach.
I don't know if he will break 7:20, but on the day of his 7:54.10 he obviously could. His record is superior to Komen's mark.
I love watching this guy run and I love his post race comments, because you know they are going to trigger a certain "type" on these message boards. The dude is just a beast and must see TV. It's really cool getting to witness this type of greatness. Speaking of greatness....the kid Laros is coming and he put the world on blast!!!
Reynold Cheruyiot is stronger than Laros and he is only 8 months older than him. Let's look at their PB
1500m: R.Cheruyiot 3'30"30 vs Laros 3'31"25
2000m: R.Cheruyiot 4'48"13. vs Laros 4'49"68
5000m: R.Cheruyiot 13'04" (on the Road) vs Laros 13'23" (on track)
Why everybody is speaking about Laros while nobody admits Cheruyiot is superior?

i don't really agree with baseless doping accusations on here. but jakob's brother was on the fancybear leak.
1. Yes, but the WADA researchers at the time admitted not adjusting for altitude training, that we know Henrik Ingebrigtsen did.
2. Professor (in athletics physiology), and one of the few with extensive research in blood value and altitude training, Jostein Hallen, says one cannot use blood values as proof of doping -too much errors and natural courses. He says so in this link, and many others.
Etter å ha finkjemmet blodverdiene til Anders Aukland, mener idrettsprofessor Jostein Hallén at blodverdier kan være misvisende å bruke som bevis for doping.
Agree that this was an “easier” record for Jakob - don’t think these comments were very arrogant. I personally don’t love the offhand disses towards his competitors just because it feels a little unnecessary, but if you’re getting offended you need to watch team sports, Jakob will seem like the nicest guy out there.
Interesting to see the physiological difference between 1500 and 2000, Jakob puts over 5s on the field in 2k vs 1.5s in a 1500 - shows how much more strength is important as the distance increases just 500m. This is also why the 3k and 5k world records are easier for him compared to the Mile and 1500, given how strong he is compared to other milers.
My prediction: he’ll finish his career with all records from Mile to 5000 but Hicham will keep the 1500.

I agree that it's likely that he breaks the records from the Mile to 5000m - but I disagree that he finishes his career with them. The will be bettered already.
In terms of trajectory, it's fair to assume that he is at or near his peak. He has been training hard for almost 15 years, and that's about as long as any athlete can keep improving in this sport, as we've seen innumerable times. It's been fun to watch him run such amazing races this year, and he may hold out this form for the next year or two, but I wouldn't be surprised if 7:20/12:35 stay intact. He may get them, he may not, but at the end of the day, I just hope he's enjoying the heck out of the form he's in right now because this is probably about as good as it's going to get.
