Unacceptable that this can occur during a Pro- race I mean it is also frustrating when occurs to us as a weekend warriors as well. Once I was leading a race that unfortunately was a caos I ended up completely lost I couldn’t even find my way back to familiar territory lol I lender up running like 3 kms extra I didn’t even get an apology from the organizers of course I never raced that crapy event again.

The lead pack going the wrong direction ≠ being impeded/assaulted by fans. Totally different situations. Going the wrong direction with the pack doesn't throw off cadence in the same way a jarring fall would. At least try to think.

The New Haven 20K doesn't deserve to ever host a championship again. What a joke! Sent the entire men's field the wrong way, didn't have splits along the course, and athletes had wrong bibs and weren't listed in the start lists. Complete joke!

Fact: that's your opinion. I'd argue that knocking someone off their bike or blocking runners is worse than accidentally leading the pack off course. Especially when said course has unclear signage and barriers in the wrong spot. To win by 11 seconds over 3rd place and 21 seconds over Futsum, who everyone believes was impacted the most negatively, indicates that the mistake had no bearing on the final standings.

For what? A runner going off course when the lead vehicle stayed on course? Have you EVER been to a tech meeting? What is the purpose of a tech meeting? Well, if you ever have been to one, you would know. It is to go over the technical issues (i.e. rules) and to let the runners know " each runner is responsible for knowing where they are going.."
Still waiting for a name of a runner that had on the wrong bib. And now add to tha, WHY a race official would need to apologize for a runner went off course on his own and even admitted it. Still waiting...

Have you read the rule book? Unsportsmanlike conduct is grounds for disqualification. If Young deliberately mislead the other runners, that is unsportsmanlike. Meaning….DQ!!!!!!’
I think what people are missing here is this: Young was in the process of getting dropped and functionally saying, "wrong way" turned into "hey wait up for me guys." Futsum was also making a surge and surged when they turned around. That surge led him further down the wrong path and he ran the longest. It's BS that Young wasn't disqualified. He should've been.

This is exactly right. Young “innocently” made a mistake in order to break the rhythm of his competitors.
Especially a bad look that his competitors aren’t white. If Futsum/Chelanga did this to Young/Mantz, you know they would have suffered the consequences

Even if it was a mistake, he hurt his competitors. Did the fan holding a poster purposefully take down a Tour De France rider? No it was a mistake. Still deserved punishment
