Surprised only a couple of people brought up the heats. While the pace could have been faster you can't really compare a diamond league race where runners have no qualifying heats and are completely fresh to the WC or Olympics where they've already ran multiple races in the preceding days to get into the final. This isn't a big deal for the races under 800M and one could argue it marginally impacts the 1500 but it is a big reason why you don't see world records in any event above 1500 at the Olympics or WC along with the fact that people are competing for gold not to set a WR.
You can call it a tactical race but even if you had folks go all out and cooperate on leading the pack, I don't think you'd see people run their PRs given the physical toll of the qualifying heats for the 5000M.
