He’s not that young, he just did 5 years in the NCAA. The man’s 24, he’ll be 25 in Paris next year. Centro won his Rio gold at 26 and Jakob won Tokyo gold at 20
And Kerr is turning 26 this year, with Wightman being 28 last year. Both had a couple of gos at least. Nuguse hasnt been training like a pro long.

Yeah Nuguse is great and he’s improved so much this year I think he’s a favorite at the Olympics this year, he’s just not a “young guy” anymore like Hobbs Kessler or Niels Laros.
I think Nuguse might be one of the most talented guys in the field but he needs to fix two things:
1. His arm carriage. It’s atrocious for a professional runner and just wastes energy. That could be the difference between medaling and not at the Olympics next year
2. He needs to want to medal/win not just be happy to be there. Jakob and Kerr came ready to run a gritty race and fight for the win.
Runners like Centro, Paul Chelimo, or Jenny Simpson were ready to fight for every position and leave it all out there. If you put Paul Chelimo’s mind in Yared Nuguse’s body, he would’ve medaled (or been DQ’d for shoving lol) in this race.
Nuguse’s time to medal is now. Jakob’s not going anywhere, Laros and Cam Meyers are improving rapidly.
First year training as a pro. Set two American records. First American 1500 Diamond League winner in years. Chopped 4+ seconds of his 1500 PR. Pretty, pretty good. His tactics were not the best today and he wasted too much energy. Still got 5th in the world. Better next year. Go Goose.
On TV you could tell how nervous he was pre-race. Sort of laughing to hide the fear. Mr. Kerr was stoic and poised.
Of course, Jakob comes with his bag of excuses post race. Happens when he loses. Shouldn't have gotten cocky in the prelims with a Brit ready to hunt you down..he needs it to be a 3:27/3:28 race due to his lack of top end speed. He has 1 card up his sleeve

In reality this is his high point. I just don't see anymore upside to him. Guess he had his 15 minutes of fame winning us trials and some indoor crap
As a 1st year pro, Neguse put himself into good position on the second lap and kept rolling to the end for 5th place in the world in 3:30 after two tough preliminary rounds. I don't see how he could have played it any better.
Everyone knows you are reeling inside from your hero Jakob's defeat. Don't try to deflect. There is only one person going home defeated in this race, and he was covered in tattoos.

There's a lot of things to say about Nuguse's arms but the one thing he is NOT doing is wasting energy, he barely needs to move his arms.
Have you had personal interaction with a man who is so low key ? You like Kerr, okay great lol but your dislike of Yared seems juvenile or misplaced . Yju did not want him to medal ? Oh brilliant comments
Its weird that Nuguse goes home devestated while Hocker seemingly did a great race. I don't get that.
This. I remember the same thing in the Olympics where Hocker finished 6th or 7th, but was significantly slower than JI and people here tried to say how great it was. While Hocker has run faster now vs Olympics, he's regressed in placing meaning more people have run faster so he hasn't gained as much. He certainly hasn't gained nearly as much as Nuguse in the same period.
Yup. The Nuguse fairy tale is over. Clear that the guy will never have the talent to be at the top.
Never understood what his fans were thinking. It's karma that they put down an Olympic medalist -Kerr, and actually had the nerve to say he's not at Nuguse level. How dumb
Well I for one am glad to say EAT DIRT
Kerr is your 1500 king!!
There's a great case to be made that Nuguse had a better collegiate career than Kerr but sure keep being a hater like your name suggests lmao

The Goose did not appear devastated. Jakob is what devastation looks like.
Hope Yared can keep the momentum going through Paris. He’s a fun dude.

Getting 5th in the world in 3:30 is indeed a solid outcome in the larger scope of things, but Nuguse could've (and should've) executed better tactics. He didn't establish good position initially, had to spend a lot of energy on the 2nd lap making that big move (not ideal timing for such a move), and then spent most of the race running on the outside. With savvier racing Nuguse likely would've medalled.
He's young , this is good experience for him. He may have expected to win and did everything he can to do so but its a good run and he will learn from it. I doubt there is any racisim here. Born out of expectation me think.
Useless info: Negus means King. Neguise means My King. some useless info for the US fans :)

Yeah he's got the I'm the 1500 Olympic champion card up his sleeve. No big deal.
