Maybe not so much if they ever sang the third verse:
And where is that band who so vauntingly swore That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion, A home and a country should leave us no more? Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps pollution. No refuge could save the hireling and slave, From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave, And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave, O'er the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave.
It looks like people are downvoting the National Anthem because they don't like the third verse.
Well I was always taught that putting your hand over your heart was a sign of a pledge. so when should you do that???????? Not during the anthem. Remove your hat, salute if in uniform, stand quietly at attention. No, you don't need to sing. When did all this new "patriotic" bull$hit come from? And I agree with the post that says the disrespect of draping athletes in flags when they finish is a load of crap as well.
I mean it's Federal Law... (unenforceable)
all other persons present should face the flag and stand at attention with their right hand over the heart, and men not in uniform, if applicable, should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart
There's nothing in that provision to enforce. It's completely hortatory, and under current Supreme Court case law, an attempt to reinterpret and "enforce" the provision as a mandate is unconstitutionalOther than that, I'm not sure why this issue has suddenly come up . Slow day at the Worlds?
Only an American would be pacified by silly symbolism "with all the sh** going on" in their country. Focus on the important issues instead of a flag for once.
Indeed, blind obedience to the flag is actually anti-freedom and un/American
